I have been trying for a week now to figure out DPP with RAW images. When I shoot a RAW + JPG image, I download the photos with a card reader, then open DPP (version 2.0.1.4). The JPG images show up, but all of the RAW images are a solid black rectangle. I am using the 1d original. I have printed out the manual for DPP and gone through it. There is no mention of this that I can find.

I can open a RAW image directly in Photoshop (CS2), but want to explore the Picture Styles option as well as more tweaking options that DPP seems to offer.

I am using a Mac if that makes any difference. Any thoughts or information would be greatly appreciated.

Off the top of my head, I have no idea...
Seems you are doing everything right.

You could try two things:
1) See if your 10D RAW files work;
2) Download the latest DPP (3.0.1). Might be your DPP is faulty somehow.

Nope... same with the 10d. Solid black window with the words RAW and a pic of a camera in the lower left corner. Damn, if you don't know Rene, nobody will! Where can I find the latest update for DPP? I went to canon, put in my camera, and it shows version 1.0 for download.

Link (external link).

I'm curious what ideas come up though. DPP works flawless overhere... (1D2)

You don't get an error message when you try to open one?
You are opening them from you HDD? Files aren't write protected?

Files are not protected. Not from the memory card, but on the computer. I can open them directly in Photoshop. No error messages.

Take some photos and leave them on the card. Plug in/set up the card reader with the card inserted as you would normally do. Do not copy them to the hard drive. Open DPP and navigate to the folders on the card. (The card reader should have its own drive letter).

If you can see the RAW files in DPP by looking at them directly on the card then something must be corrupting them when you copy them to the hard drive. If they are still black when looking directly at the card then I don't really know what else to suggest.

Did you get any joy in solving this problem?

Problem has not been solved yet... so no.. no joy. I have no idea why it won't work. It must be an issue with the program itself that I have.

If you could put one online somewhere, I could try and open it in DPP?
Or I could put a 1D2 raw online for you to try?

Rene, I have downloaded version 1.0 of DPP as that is the version listed for my 1d (original) on the drivers/downloads page at canon. The photos DO open with this program, however, this version does not have the Picture Styles function, which was kind of my whole point in wanting to use this program. Now I am really confused on which way to go. Is there a way to download the newest version for a 1D? Or am I stuck using version 1.0?

Try this link:

http://www.usa.canon.com …egoryid=314&modelid=12012 (external link)

And click on the "Drivers & Downloads" Tab if you have to, and then the red "Drivers / Software" link will pop up a page where you can get the DPP 3 update, among others.

It's the Mark II N page, but it's possible they didn't put the latest software updates on the 1D since it's been discontinued for a long time. I didn't check.

Did you lose Digital Photo Professional (DPP)? Get it here (external link). Cursing at your worse-than-a-map reflector? Check out this vid! (external link)

Ahhh, I would if I could Don. I have OSX version 10.2, you need 10.3 or higher for version 3.0.

thank you for trying though.

Ohh you're one of the fruity people. :)

I don't see any reference to it needing to be 10.3 though.
