Sorry, my mistake.

BTW, I'm waiting to see if LR 1.1 adresses my biggest complaint and that is how to handle RAW+jpg imports. I need to delete both files at the same time as I review them, not delete some in one directory and then try to repeat my deletes in another directory.

You could try this then:

Import the RAW files, renaming if you like.(for exapmle DATE_RAWFILENAME.cr2)
Import the JPEG files into the SAME folder but change the filename to DATE_RAWFILENAME_JPEG.jpg.
In grid mode select all, right click and choose Autostack by Date (or some variety of that, I don't recall the exact name).
Now you have all of your RAW and JPEG images in the same folder and when you choose to delete an image you can delete the stack and not just the single image.

Thanks. I've gotten several techniques from people that I've been trying, it just seems like extra steps, but I haven't tried them all yet and not this one.

I know this is not the topic of this thread, but it sure is good to see so many people aknowledging and using RAWs. There was a time that I had to argue (I mean strongly discuss) that advantage constantly!

It may be premature for me, but after using LR for a few days, it totally fails for me. Maybe I am too set on my ways with CS2 features. And also Picasa works perfectly for me. It does look slick. But that's about it.

actually lightroom is simply amazing, i have read the above comments, but the only time i go to photoshop is to run an action such as kubota, or to do a few other simple things,
its a great program created for US

I've been hesitant to Lightroom until very recently, using ACR and Photoshop exclusively.

However, as I suddenly had to process a lot of photos (> 1000) in one go I gave LR a chance. So far it has impressed me. It doesn't really add anything new as much as it just provides a user interface that suits a more efficient work flow.

I wonder if some of the posters from 2 yrs back have changed their minds about lightroom??

I think lightroom is a great tool, I porbably spend 80% lightroom and 20% photoshop these days.

It depends on what your doing. Mass production = lightroom, organization = there are better ones out there and they handle video and other formats, photoshop is always a must.

Lightroom does handle video now, and the other image formats although that wouldn't include all "graphics stuff" and other file formats. The design intent of LR has been to support the photographer, rather than the entire Photoshop "community". That may not appeal to a lot of folks, but I thing it's a powerful tool for doing exactly what it's designed to do while avoiding the clutter of a non-photographer's toolkit.

i use lightroom as well as cs5 and i must say, it is worth every bit. I love how it organizes your pictures, and it can publish directly to flickr/smugmug/facebook.

I have a question regarding LR, PSE and PS .
I currently use canon DDP for raw files and gimp/ulraw for editing anything advanced like layer work .

Now I know PS can do anything Gimp can with layers but how does LR and PSE handle editing of pic's . I see the new PSE9 lists layer work as feature but can it do more advanced layer work , like layer masks like for sharpening (high-pass, edge detection) , to remove/mask sections of of a pic ?

I viewed most all of the PSE9 vids on Adobe site but they don't go into detail of layers .

Edit: I see LR2+ has some sharpening tools built in like edge mask .

As the OP i must say I made the switch to LR last year because I was sick of paying the higher upgrade fee for CS5. I didn't want to keep paying 30% of the initial cost of Photoshop every time I needed to upgrade ACR. 30% of the initial cost for a few minor upgrades wasn't worth it to me.
I figured over time that the cheaper upgrade fee for LR would be more beneficial to me.

I love LR - I lose and miss dearly the ability to use smart objects but I find that it is much easier to use presets.
