After seeing all the great posts of one of the local Green Heron's I went to try my luck on Monday evening. I ran into Canondslruser and after photographing some Red-wing Blackbirds and Tree Swallows the sun was setting when the heron finally arrived!
The lighting was terrible as the pond was completely in the shade and the sun was setting fast. We were forced to use Fill Flash and my ISO was set at 800 (terrible for good detail). In any event here is a series of shots of the heron fishing. (I've only had one shot of this bird before that evening)
Bigma @ 500mm on monopod with fill flash. Cropped to about 40% of full frame.
1. The stalk.
2. The Strike.
3. The Catch (Tadpole)
