I bought the huey (not pro) and just got it and calibrated my monitor (all lights off, etc.). Unfortunately, as I thought might be the case, my monitor was apparently already almost perfect. The before/after images were very hard to tell apart, only upon close inspection could I see the corrected was a touch darker. Anyway, it's not really any difference, and I'm kinda dissapointed (but I'm sure it worked correctly). Anyone else have the calibration not do much at all? I always hear everyone saying it was a huge difference.

Why were the lights off? Do you edit in the dark?

people will always try to stop you doing the right thing if it is unconventional

What cosworth said. I really do find it odd that the manufacturers ask you to calibrate with the lights off when we don't edit our pics in the dark... though they may know something that I don't...

My spyder2 Pro doesn't ask for the lights to be out.

I've read on here that you are supposed to make the room as dark as possible for the calibration. However, with the huey doing its ambient light detection thing, I think it is a moot point anyway. I just calibrated again using the huey with lights on and the corrected was the same as the uncorrected. However, I think adobe gamma was running on startup so I am going to restart and see if I can recalibrate; making sure gamma is not on.

After I disabled Adobe Gamma, I got better results calibrating my Viewsonic with the Huey and lights on. Just make sure lights aren't shining directly on the LCD...ie a desk/table lamp aimed right at it or some such.

The Huey hasn't given me results worth a crap on my Dell laptop though. I'm highly disappointed about that. I was going to try a Spyder2Pro but I'm going to give the Eye One a go first since WHCC recommends it and I'll be using their services from here on out.

Did you lose Digital Photo Professional (DPP)? Get it here (external link). Cursing at your worse-than-a-map reflector? Check out this vid! (external link)

Adobe gamma disabled, lights on in background (not shining), all steps followed, monitor cleaned, etc. Still looks the same.

It's not that big of a deal though, I figured my monitor was very close to correct calibration anyway because from most images people post, the people with calibrated monitors echo my color/brightness/WB thoughts exactly. Also, the prints I had done were almost exactly like my monitor, just a bit darker.

I guess I should keep the huey though...

The Huey is definitely worth keeping, with 'Adjust for room lighting' switched on as all monitors degrade gradually over the weeks between calibrations - more so the older they get. Regular calibration with any tool counters this better than you can without as the changes, because the occur gradually, aren't always noticeable.

Aren't you glad to know that your monitor is a good one? Just like Thomas Edison tried 1000s of materials before finding one that will take current for the light bulb and he said after each one he learned what did not work which was as valuable as finding things that did work.

What type of computer/video card are you using...

My Spyder2express initially didn't show any differences on my laptop... found out that the laptop's video card driver didn't allow the changes (ATI IGP320, I believe)...

What I had to do was download a modtool from driverheaven.net, a standard desktop driver from ati, and then try installng the driver... when it failed, I used the modtool... since then I can see before/after changes.
