I considering the purchase of the 20' iMAC, I plan to add and extra 1GB Ram to take it up to 2GB. I was also looking to change the processor from 2.16GHz to 2.33GHz but not sure how much differance in reality this would make.

I'll be running mainly photo editing software and internet.

Thanks for you thoughts
Raff

I read somewhere on here about an 8% increase in performance, but I will be damned if I can find the thread.:)

EDIT: Found it. Specifically post number 13.

Cheers for that Mike,

Coming from a 1.60GHz - 256MB Ram PC I reckon the 2.16GHz Dual core mac will knock my socks off just fine and from what I have read it seems for photo editing the 128MB graphics card is compitent for the job.

I am a PC guy myself but I would have to agree with you that it should scream compared to your current configuration.:) I would also agree that 128MB graphics should be fine for editing but I do see most go for 256MB. Currently I am using integrated graphics with an AMD 1.8 GHz, 2GB RAM and think it does pretty well. It is about a year old and was an upgrade from an old 1.5GHz PIII machine with 512 MB RAM.

I'm in the UK! from what I see in the UK Referbs most only have 1GB Ram...seems cheaper to buy outside of Apple (the Ram) but is it simple to set up?

Just found out that Apple wont upgrade the refurbs so that answers where it comes from, just a matter of fitting it??

RAM is easy to install - Instructions (external link) .

Here in the US - RAM for the iMac has dropped about 50% in the last couple of months. OWC now has a 2 GB stick for $130.
