I just picked up a G-1 on last Sunday and am still being tested by the camera. How is the best way to fire the camera for time exposures once the camera is mounted on a tripod. I am trying to come up with another way besides the IR control.

Thanks
Frank

I guess you could just use the self -timer mode. But I don't understand you aversion to using the IR remote.
It works ok for me.

What I am tring to do is to take some pictures of a bird in its nest outside the window in dusk. I don't have a way of me being outside with the IR and the camera inside. The bird takes off when he/she sees one of us comming.

I haven't tried it myself, but maybe a carefully placed mirror to reflect the IR remote onto the camera?

Would this situation be amenable to computer control? I think the G1 comes with a control program and http://www.breezesys.com/ (external link) has a more feature-rich one available for a modest shareware price.

The author of the breezesys program used it to do a time-lapse series of a flower blossom opening. Very cool.

Here's another solution, though somewhat crude...
