I don't dare show my wife this topic's title!
Just showing a little humor on a Friday night!
Since I have your attention, the first two are portrait shots.

If you look close, you can see my blind in the pupil of the first duck.

On the right side of the pupil of the second one shows the pole on which the wood duck box is on.

This duck is very suspicious of that lens sticking out of that blind!!

This last one shows just how sneaky those little devils are and how motionless they can be. I didn't realize those two were there until I started scanning the weeds with the lens because I was getting bored.

Hey Gerry. Beautiful shots of a beautiful duck. I had reason to learn how sneaky and quiet these guys can be. They like to get close to the bank and under the trees at the waters edge where I go, and don't move. But if you stop, they slowly paddle away and it's luck to see them at all. :)

One of the sharpest most colorful shots of a wood duck I've ever seen! Maybe the best I've ever seen! Wow! What lens did you use if I may ask?

Thanks for the nice replies everyone!

Mitch, aren't they the sneakiest birds? I'm still amazed at how they can blend into the bullrushes and cattails, being how colorful they are.

Thanks Fade2! I'm glad nobody was offended by the title. Reminds me of the guy I know who took 2 viagaras at the same time because he thought two was better. He couldn't go to work the next day! True story! He is a carpenter which could make for another joke!!

Thanks JohnnyG! The lens I was using is the mother of all lenses; the Canon 600 with a 1.4 extender. That's where I put my severance money after retiring from 34 years of teaching! I almost always shoot wide open, which is 5.6, with this combo in order to get enough shutter speed. That's why in the first picture the left side of the bird's head is a bit OOF because of the extreme narrow DOF. To make matters worse, it was early evening and overcast. The birds in the first two pictures were so close that I thought they would be too close to focus on. The minimum focus range on the 600 is something like 16.5 feet. Man, you have to be quiet in the blind when they're that close!

Thanks DonE! They've always been my favorite duck to watch from my blind. When the females come flying in to take a break from being on their nests, they are very vocal. It sounds like "bleep, bleep". I very seldom hear the males make any sounds.

Thank you Cannylad! These birds were supposed to have almost become extinct years ago because of hunters. The reason given because they were so dumb. I have never found this to be the case. They are extremely suspicious and clever IMHO!!

Excellent work Gerry - first one's a beauty, so well exposed and presented.
Gerry I'm sorry mate you'r gonna have to explain the relevance of the title to a thicky from over the pond - not at my best today ;)
Regards Alan.

Thanks for the nice comments everyone!

Thanks Alan! I'm glad you caught onto my humor! I've always appreciated you Brits' humor also! I still crack up when I see reruns of Benny Hill! He was the master!

Calicokat, thank you for the nice comment! Much appreciated!

Mitch, thanks for letting Alan know about a Yank's weird sense of humor!

Rob, thank you also! I was happy with those shots from the other night. It's a lot like fishing; some days you get skunked and other days you go home happy.

Nick, another big thank you to a Brit! Always nice talking to you guys from the other side of the pond.
