QueenBee, if you're constantly painting your mask then inverting, you should simply double-click on the Quick Mask icon and choose "Selected Areas" instead of "Masked Areas".

I don't know about other people, but I've changed my mask colour from red to green. I find most of my masking is on skin, and sometimes it's hard to clearly see the definition of a red mask against red skin ... so I've chosen green. Some of my colleagues use blue.

Theres not to many portraits that I shoot that I don't use a quick mask. Its a very useful tool. Thanks for the tutorial. Nice work both the captures and the PP...Beautiful girl also.

I cannot seem to get the effect you have. In the quick mask area I get the exclusion but dont seem to accomplish the selection to new layer step can you help me out on that move??

You have to exit the quick mask mode and than right click on the selection and select "layer via copy".

This was a really good old thread to resurrect!

Good job on the edit btw - I think you overdid the smoothing just a LITTLE bit, it looks tiny bit plasticky, but that can be fixed easily by lowering the opacity of the layer.
