Hand looks about sharp. Face pretty sharp as well (better then I thought).
Maybe afocus check (external link)would be in order, if only to eliminate that possibility.

Yup, I'm planning on doing that. Need to pull the tripod out of the car first.

If you're shooting slow enough to use a tripod you're sure to get movement. Trust us when we say your lens is just too slow. If that weren't the case, I'd be shooting shows with a $149 telephoto lens. :) I shoot with f/2.8 and a f/1.8. There are times when that isn't even enough.

Erm, no. I was going to use the tripod so I was certain that distance and position of the lens in relation to object was the same for doing test shots checking if it is front or back focused. As it so happened I did by hand and the day after my housemate took it to a shoot at his work where he is the inhouse product photographer and he came back with the words "I want that lens"

Yesterday I was back at the venue with a nifty fifty. Ofcourse, the lighting was waaaaaay better. Ofcourse the venue had invested some money in getting a bit more lighting gear in. Ofcourse, this meant that the nifty shots wide open looks like I've used flash so guess what - I pulled out the 28-105, stuck the lenshood on and carried on with that.

I'll be posting pics later.
