Spotted sandpiper, a small piper who can't control its butt! If you ever tried to photograph this bird you'll know what I'm talking about.

This is an awesome picture of a beautiful bird. Looks like a diorama. Beautiful smooth bokeh and interesting foreground.

Excellent capture, ZIp! How fortunate that he decided to go for a yellowish snack, I love the way it stands out against the dark bg. Great job :)

I think I took some pics of this bird this evening. I don't think I caught the same type of action as you did Zip. Great job on all counts.

Very sweat capture Zip. The fly is pure gravy.

Very nice! I like the way there is motion blur everywhere except on the head. Even the fly was positioned perfectly!

If you don't mind my asking, where are you? I've only ever seen Sandpipers on the beaches here in Florida, but that looks to be in the woods somewhere?

This photo is a notch above, Zip. Well done! Know what you mean about the bobbing. Nice catch for the bird as well. :)

A big thank you to Mitch, Bea, Don, Gary, Karen, Sindri, Dennis, and Rick and to all who took a look.

Thanks! What you are seeing is cattails blowing in the wind with moving water both in the shadows. The bird is in sweet late sun-light on a spillway giving some good depth. I spent over 2 hours with this bird and he or she got very use to me.

Up-state NY. Lots of pipers along the edges of most ponds, lakes and yes even the small creeks. This shot was taken at a small lake.
