Does anyone ever use the "Picture Styles"? Do they change anything that can't be dealt with in the Raw images?

But if don't want to post process your pictures, you can use them directly from the camera. 5D Mk2, 16-35 II, 35 1.4, 135 2, 2x 580EX2

None of them alter the raw data so the only relevance of them to raw files is that if you use Canon software (DPP, ImageBrowser, ZoomBrowser) then the picture styles are used as defaults though they can be change. I think other raw processing programs ignores them. Comments, bribes, criticism, bribes, irrelevant anecdotes, and bribes always welcome.

It means that when i pp the images i get the option of starting from scratch with the raw file or getting a large version of the jpeg from the raw file (if that makes sense). Once you determine by experiment what settings give the effects it will be easier to recreate. However you can apply any picture styles in DPP and avoid all that if you want those effects. Jon
