I'd really like to get better with live concert photo's. It's something I really enjoy doing but sometimes it is just so hard to get good shots. Especially when the only thing I have to shoot with is a Canon Rebel which still has the kit lens... Here are some shots, it'd be cool to hear some feedback from people and possibly get a few pointers on how to make these look better in the future...

really good set, u have captured energy, which is good lol. why dont you get a new lense? keep the camera as its a really great starter just get some faster glass.

No1. you chopped the guitar head off. Dont do that lol, unless ur going for a really close shot.
No.2 is cool looks like a wide angle, although get rid of the wire hanging down the middle.
no.3. well i dunno about anyone else, but im jealous of that lighting Rig, thats like a dream compared to what most of us are used to lol.
No.4. again great energy and nice B/W conversion. tho i dont like the Mic stand but it doesnt bother me to much.

Nice set, Keep it up and keep on posting.
Cheers,

James....

I really do want to get a new lense, that's the next thing on my purchase list. What do you suggest though for low light shots?

Yeah, Pictures 3 and 4 were taken in Tokyo, Japan. The venues there are so much nicer than anything in the US or Canada that I've played/shot at as far as lighting and even sound goes.

Thanks for the comments and pointers, it is much appreciated! Take care!

Last one is nice. Composition is a bit centralised on all. I also think they could be a bit sharper.
In the FAQ there is a post linking to Manyk SRS. Give that a try.

On lenses: Depending on venue, type of shot, budget and crop factor: Sigma 20/1.8; Sigma 30/1.4; EF 50/1.4; EF 85/1.8 or a f/2.8 zoom like the 24-70 or 70-200 offerings.

Yup, read the FAQ at the beginning of the list of threads. There is good information there on many things.

Given the lens you were using, these are actually pretty decent.

Looks like you got lucky. Judging by the last image, this show was lit for a dvd. This is a rare occurance. You'll notice the limitations of the kit lens when you go to shoot a show that is concert lit, not dvd lit.

Nice images though. #1 is a little soft but other than that, they are pretty good.

Thanks a lot! Yeah, they were making this thing called @United for a pay per view program in Japan. I've never had an easier time shooting in my life, it was amazing!

i like the full stage shot the best; however i would of panned over to your left (to get the video guy out and the drummer in). then on pp darken just a bit and crank up contrast
