After a long day trip I arrived back in London at 4am so thought I would take advantage of it being dawn before getting my final bus home.

As I had no tripod I needed to go to ISO 3200 to be able to get hand holdable exposures.

1. (1/8th second at f/2.8)

2. (0.6 seconds at f/8 - trying to get more depth of field)

3. (1/30th second at f/2.8)

Aargh, only just noticed there seems to be some sort of large dust spot on the last one.

The noise was really bad though ACR managed to do a good job of making the colour blend in so it appears more like grain. Would love to go try again but with a tripod and longer exposures, but that getting up early to be about at 4am? I am too lazy for that!

Michael.

I like these shots.Very well composed. I'm not too big on noise and that can be reduced with Noise Ninja. I guess the graininess fits the situation and affect you were going for. Good job.

Thanks for the comments.

I did use the luminance smoothing in ACR to make the noise more like grain as it helps suggest the time of day. Probably because we are so used to seeing that effect from the use of high speed film we make a subconscious connection with low light when seeing grainy shots. It just feels strange to me if they are too clean.

Michael.
