Hawk Down

Just heard from the Audobon place today

I found this guy out by my mail box the other day. I walked to the box and saw a few feather's in the yard and street and new it was not a good thing. I looked around and saw the bird in the vines and grass around an oak stand. He was really calm when he saw me.

I ran inside and found a box, poked some holes in it and gently picked it up and placed him the the box. Of course I snaped a few pictures along the way. I felt bad doing that Is that wrong? Up to me to deside I guess. The Bird was very calm.

He had a severe gash along his leg from what I could see, but I imagine his wing was broke and possibly his leg/s. He did not make it from what they said

that made me really sad it is a beautiful creature and i am sorry he didn't make it..

I found another feather outside as I got in this afternoon.
I think I will put it on my dream catcher I picked up in Canada this winter.

Sad but part of the cycle in nature for ALL Creatures including ourselfs.

Not a lot you can say really.... Sad.....

He/she looks peacful and very calm in your shots

A sad story to be sure, but it is nice to know that there are people out there who will do what they can to ease the suffering of an injured creature. +1 to the "circle of life" comment above--we've all got it coming, hopefully with a little compassion to see us through to the end...

Poor thing. It probably had internal injuries. Bones can be set. At least it didn't have to die beside the road.

Beautiful red-shouldered hawk - really sad news.

If his injuries hadn't been mortal, he probably would have put you in outpatient care with two dozen stitches up and down your arms.

That hurts in the pit of my stomach. So sad, which makes the pictures very powerful.

Sad indeed, but I would have taken the shots too. You tried your best and did your part to rescue it...that should be enough to make you feel like you did the right thing.

My first thought when I did see him/her was to be as gentle and swift as I could possibly be. I did not want to stress the bird out any more then it had been.

Sad out come but I do feel good about being able to care for a creature as awesome as he/she was for the short period of time. After all they take care of me The joy I get taking pictures and watching them is good for my soul.

like someone already said, it is all part of life but i still can't help but feel really sad looking at that second pic. the problem with seeing that pic is that i have really hard time looking at a hawk that is so helpless. for me, watching them out in the wild is awe inspiring because they are really powerful and for me, they represent the best nature has to offer and the very top of the food chain. this is like seeing Superman in the hospital bed in Superman Returns. the good news is that there are still people like you out there that can respect and appreciate nature and give a helping hand to a fallen creature even though you knew that one wrong move and your hand will become hawk food...
