For once, my most recent lens purchase (300mm f/4) isn't on the list. ;)

The 17-40 might be a good wide-angle option for the 1dIII.

Well this would be a nice birthday, May 17th, present from Canon to me had the 70-200 f2.8 non IS been on the list.

i wonder if this will stack on top of B&H's show special prices?

I sure hope so as I kind of think they should reduce the price off whatever they were selling the item for. If not, I'll certainly try giving them a call. :) I wonder if the lenses on this list have anything in common. Do you think they are the lenses that aren't moving well, are about to be replaced, or do they just have a ton in finished goods that they want to recognize as revenue?

In case anyone's interested, here are the rebate values from the last mail-in offer:

I just got off the phone with a B&H representative, and the instant rebates will NOT be applied to their "specials".

That sucks. In that case, it would have been better if Canon was still doing the mail-in rebate because then you could still buy at the "Show Specials" price and then still mail in for your rebate. In this respect, it was cheaper to buy during the last mail-in rebate promo. Hmmm...I wonder if I should bother trying to call in to plead the case.

I'm not surprised that B&H does not do both. They are already pretty reasonably pricing the Canon gear. But since I am not ordering anything, I am not bothered. I think I will sit this one out. Sorry to anyone wishing it was better. The aggravation this instant rebate will save you is worth buying the thing you've been wanting for some savings.

I just dropped nearly 700 for the 17-40 f/4 and now there's a rebate. Fantastic.

Not really. The 70-200IS was $1599 with the Show Special price. With the rebate now, it just takes the "regular" store price down to $1599 which is still the same as what we could have bought it for before the rebate.

I agree that the rebate is better for those items that did not have Show Special pricing, but it's pretty much the same net price for those items that were already on sale. It's a little bit unfair, IMO, because B&H gets the rebate back from Canon, so that means they're pocketing it.

I'm curious about the selection of lenses that they are applying the rebate to. It is certainly a smaller set of lenses that what I'm used to seeing. I wonder if the rebate is targeted at these lenses to move stock, as they aren't selling well? It wouldn't appear that Canon would offer a rebate on an item that is currently selling well.

The lack of bodies definately have me scratching my head. If Canon was indeed going to come out with a 40D later on in the summer, it would appear that they would want to push 30D stock right now. What better way than to offer a rebate on it. I'm now wondernig if we will see a 40D in the later part of this year.

Also, the Mark III was announced after the last round of rebates, so does that mean we will see a 40D announced around mid July? The current speculation right now is that the 40D would be announced in August. These rebates end just prior to August, so the timing seems about right.

B&H will adjust to the market. They are already below suggested retail price. If the other competitors like Adorama start adjusting lower, they will have to follow. Till then, Best Buy types of stores that sell at MSRP will adjust to the instant rebate. I guess the mail-in type of rebate has it's ups and downs.

Does anyone know what those little logos are next to certain lenses? Such as the one next to the 70-200 2.8 IS?

This is only a guess since I can't read it...but being that they are only next to the "IS" lenses....than my guess would be some new logo for "IS" lenses....Canon seems to be calling it "Optical Image Stabilization" now.

Right after I brought my 24-70.

In california you are protected for 30 days in the event the item goes on sale/rebate. Ask them.
