Boy am I out of shape. My arms were so sore and tired at the end of the day I was just about dead. My feet ached so bad. What a wimp I am. I've been training extra hard in taekwondo to prepare for the season and it still wasn't enough.

Weather was great. yet another typical super sunny day in Edmonton. Clouds are rare in this area... I'm gonna get skin cancer..

As always, C&C appreciated. I'm not TOO happy as my brain was also out of shape and I forgot to do a couple standard 'traditional and safe' poses I always like to include. One of these days I'll actually get it right....

1. In the church (They got married in the same church I was baptized in three decades ago!)

2. The tough guys
IMAGE: http://www.nightanddayphoto.ca/misc/forumpics/ma/b.jpg

3. I love using the 17-55's flare characteristics.
IMAGE: http://www.nightanddayphoto.ca/misc/forumpics/ma/c.jpg

4. Dress is blown out but that's part of the cross processed look. I included this just to show that I actually DO take natural light shots.
IMAGE: http://www.nightanddayphoto.ca/misc/forumpics/ma/d.jpg

5. I noticed the bride had a ton of 'sun through the trees' photos in her house so I wanted to give her something of that theme.
IMAGE: http://www.nightanddayphoto.ca/misc/forumpics/ma/e.jpg

6. That cake was awesome and made by a friend on her baseball team. It looked (and tasted) nicer than many pro cakes I've seen.

7. First dance 1

8. First dance 2

Great job as usual Lloyd. #2 is my favourite. I like the way you captured the shadows on the ground. Very 'Sopranoesque'...well, almost. What's causing the particles that can be seen between the B&G on the last pic? Must have been using a fast lens. Don't listen to Kathy, they're all great! lol :)

What I like most about these is the added dimension you get by shooting into the light .. I was looking at some of Matt Adock's more recent work yesterday and his use of strobes to back-light the subject makes his work stand out.

7 & 8 have great backlight .. did you have an assistant with a lightstick or use the existing light or work with the video lights?

2 has great back-light as well which gives the strong shadows. They are all evenly lit .. did you use more than one light here? The flare in 3 is a nice touch but in 2 it just shows as dots on their clothes, maybe clone out.

Check

for some backlighting inspiration.

Yup, I agree Kathy, I pretty much suck... hahaha. No seriously, there is some truth to that. Wedding after wedding all I can think about is how many things I missed or screwed up on and how I'll make the next better.

All lighting was done with Speedlites. Having my whole kit in one bag is very important to me. Studio strobes with power packs would more than double the size of my kit and be totally impractical for destination shooting.

mmahoney, #2 was shot with 3 speedlites. There is no way one could light all 3 of them. I have always been a backlighting whore... for like... 16 years.

I agree the flares should be cloned out of #2 though. Good catch.

I'm actually worried about that with my last wedding. I was having so much fun and being totally creative- with a very, VERY, conservative bride and groom. I know I got shots I think are great and some of you will probably like as well- but not sure they are gonna dig 'em.

Lloyd however, you are more set in your style ( not saying your boring at all) and I would bet they came to you for this particular style!

Its a good thing. If I ever get married in Canada I'll need a fun photographer. :)

Yeah I guess. My style is a little odd compared to standard I suppose. I hope I don't end up on the boring side someday!!! You all will have to keep me in check! thanks for the comments y'all!

I looove the one of the cake and First Dance #1. Those are absolutely wonderful :D The cake really looks fantastic! If you hadn't said so, I would have thought it was made by a pro. I love all the orange and white, (cake, decorations on the table, her dress and the bg). Great shots :) I'm sure they'll be very happy with them.
