Looks great! How did you manage to get so low to the ground? At all of the dragstrips I've been to that shot would have been impossible unless you were lying in the other lane!

Excellent! 8)

5D and holy trinity of primes. Now the 90mm TS-E TS-E fly bit me. I hate these forums.

And who said I didn't? When I asked how to shoot dragraces here some days ago, I was told to get low, so I did ;) I was quite lucky that I got this shot right before the bike in "my" lane crashed into my back.. Fortunatly my 10D and lens is OK, and I also got some real closeup images of that bike flying through the air

No seriously... Drags in Norway doesn't draw a lot of attendents compared to in the US. We don't have high security-fences in front of us, and we don't have tribunes all the way up the strip. In fact, we only have it right at the staging-area. The rest of the strip is then (dependant on the location) free for walking along (though at 10m or so away from the strip (no challenge for anything of 135mm or higher)) so on this shot, I was standing roughly 150m up the strip. Because of natural elevations in the nature, I was standing probably 3-4 metres higher than the lane. That's how I got "over" the 1.5m high security-railing on "my" side (same height as the one you see in the background). This location was quite ideal on this strip, and I sure will use it all the time instead of the stands the next time I'm there.

Found a shot shoving a bit of the location this shot was taken from.. In the lower-left corner (very out of focus) you can see the fence the attendants can not move beyond. Think it's 10-15 metres from this fence till the safe-railing of the track. The motorcycle was shot from the same possitiion, but facing the other way.

Nice capture and comp of the Bike. Your Drag Strip seems to be located in a very scenic area.

Yes, the strip is an old military runway if I'm not mistaken. It lies with the forrest on three sides, and our capital airport behind my back from where this shot was taken. Very nice place.

Great shot, but the important question is, what did he run? :)

Great shot and very good tip. I'll remember that when I get to the races again. If I go at the right time I'll be allowed access to the restricted area.

Heh, I don't know actually. The motorcycles doesn't thrill me, the cars does. The motorcycles make up for some great shots though. Anyway, it was just qualifications-day, so times didn't really matter _that_ much.
