I have had my 30D and 24-70L lens there for 6 weeks awaiting maintenance. Has anyone else experienced such a long wait?
They told me they had to wait for a part to be shipped from Japan...I guess they don't have the rubber lens focusing ring on stock (not like they are expensive or take much room). I call once a week and they are giving me the impression they are disorganized. They forever are saying "call back next week - hopefully there'll be more information."

Not that I am defending them, but with 50 current lenses and countless previous models there are a whole lot of parts to keep in stock. They probably only keep the things that get replaced most often.

6 weeks is a long time. I would be going crazy.

I am going to Prague and Amsterdam in 2 days - they know this. Several people have told me they would put a rush on this. This scares me because I would think it would have been flagged as RUSH the first time it was promised. At one point they offered me a replacement lens...but now are telling me it can take 7-10 days to get the replacement lens...which will be too late. They have never returned either of their 2 promised callbacks. I will call them at noon today and demand a stupervisor.

The part they requested from japan was the rubber lens focusing ring.

Did you call them? What did they say? Bug them for a loaner!

That would drive me crazy too! I sent my 5d in once and was lucky to get it back in 2 weeks. But, i really don't think they did anything to it along with my lens... scary.

Unfortunately, six weeks is a pretty typical turnaround time for Canon Canada - even on a "pro rush" order. They stock very little in the way of parts (or loaner gear) nowadays. :(

Not meant as a challenge but is there any way to verify this? A source? It took them 5 days for a shutter and mirror box replacement they did for me.

I've called them several times. They've said their priority is to get the original lens repaired in time. Only today did they admit it won't be done on time. They offered me a replacement but said the replacement takes 7 days to arrive. After compalining and being put on hold they said they PROBABLY could get a replacement by Friday morning.
...and I'd have to pick it up myself on the way to the airport!!

Yes the Canon Mississauga repair center is hurry up and wait. On two occasions I waited 2 months for each warrantee repair. I should have charged them for equipment rental.

Doh! I just took my 5D into the Irvine Canon repair center. They said that it would take 2 hours, then I asked them to calibrate my lenses to my 5D as well, and they said it would take 5-7 business days. I hope I don't have to wait weeks or <gasp> months! Anyone had any experience with the Irvine, CA service center?

Thanks,
Robert

Both the US facilities are very prompt. It's some of the Canadian and UK facilities that take for ever (and, I seem to hear a distant voice from Down Under, Australia).

Update- I did receive the 30D body yesterday, but not the lens. Canon finally called me (this is the first of 3 promised calls that was returned). They said the replacement lens SHOULD be there tomoorow.
I fully intend to send them links to all the negative comments that this post (and other ones I started on other sites) generates.
If Canon subsequently makes me happy, then I will be more than happy to update this.
Canon did call me - they said they will have a replacement lens ready for me tomorrow...as I am flying off to Amsterdam & Prague tomorrow afternoon , they are cutting it oh so close..and I will have to pick it up on the way to the airport (costing me an extra $40 on my airport limo cost)....they better have it for me or I'll be angry. I better pack the kit lens, just in case. I did get my 30D body yesterday.

Well I am back from Prague & Amsterdam - incredible photo ops in both those places!!!

Well as promised, I must say I am feelin' the love from Canon. They were slow and unresponsive to my initial inquiries - but once they realized they had dropped the ball on my several requests for them to hurry up, they really came through for me.

They DID have a replacement lens for me though I cut it close and pick it up on the way to the airport, a situation fraught with stress and anxiety..what if they didn't have it there, what i the copy they gave me was bad? Well it was there and it was a new copy. Actually I gave them a 28-70 L lens and I received a new 24-70 L lens.

So due to their tardiness and generousity I now have a new 'L' lens in exchange for the old one.

It worked out great for me in the end - but ONLY after a lot of status calls plus worry and anxiety that I was going to be in Prague and Amsterdam without my camera.

Thanks Canon for realizing you were taking too long and for your most generous solution!!
