Good to hear that things eventually worked out for you. That's cutting it REALLY close. Even with a new lens in the end, I'd be super pissed.
I'm getting a little pissy, myself, and I'm going to rant and add to this thread.
Mine isn't quite as extensive as yours, 6 weeks?! WTF?!
I have a wedding to shoot this weekend and want my backup body (an XT) back. It's just in for calibration! How hard is that? Slap on the cabration tool, hook it up to a pc... run some tests and make some adjustments through the software UI. DONE! Can't take more than an hour, can it??
Work on it officially started on July 17, 2007 by Canon. We are now on the 10th business day. I've had work done there before and it's usually been pretty good and I know that their standard policy turn-around time is 10-15 business days.
I've called numerous times to state my urgency and, like everyone else, "it's been flagged as a rush, an urgent order, a high priority.." etc etc.
I just want my camera back... fixed.
Sorry about the rant. Just need to get that out for you folks.
Thanks for reading.

Well I am back from Prague & Amsterdam - incredible photo ops in both those places!!!
Well as promised I must say I am feelin' the love from Canon. Thy were low and unresponsive to my initial inquiries - but once they realized they had dropped the ball on my several requests for them to hurry up, they really came through for me.
They DID have a replacement lens for me though I cut it close and pick it up on the way to the airport, a situation fraught with stress and anxiety..what if they didn't have it there, what i the copy they gave me was bad? Well it was there and it was a ran new copy.
So due to their tardiness and generousity I now have a new 'L' lens in exchange for the old one.
It worked out great for me in the end - but ONLY after a lot of status calls plus worry and anxiety that I was going to be in Prague and Amsterdam without my camera.
Thanks Canon for realizing you were taking too long and for your most generous solution!!
