Good to hear that things eventually worked out for you. That's cutting it REALLY close. Even with a new lens in the end, I'd be super pissed.

I'm getting a little pissy, myself, and I'm going to rant and add to this thread.

Mine isn't quite as extensive as yours, 6 weeks?! WTF?!

I have a wedding to shoot this weekend and want my backup body (an XT) back. It's just in for calibration! How hard is that? Slap on the cabration tool, hook it up to a pc... run some tests and make some adjustments through the software UI. DONE! Can't take more than an hour, can it??

Work on it officially started on July 17, 2007 by Canon. We are now on the 10th business day. I've had work done there before and it's usually been pretty good and I know that their standard policy turn-around time is 10-15 business days.

I've called numerous times to state my urgency and, like everyone else, "it's been flagged as a rush, an urgent order, a high priority.." etc etc.

I just want my camera back... fixed.

Sorry about the rant. Just need to get that out for you folks.

Thanks for reading.

Well I am back from Prague & Amsterdam - incredible photo ops in both those places!!!

Well as promised I must say I am feelin' the love from Canon. Thy were low and unresponsive to my initial inquiries - but once they realized they had dropped the ball on my several requests for them to hurry up, they really came through for me.

They DID have a replacement lens for me though I cut it close and pick it up on the way to the airport, a situation fraught with stress and anxiety..what if they didn't have it there, what i the copy they gave me was bad? Well it was there and it was a ran new copy.

So due to their tardiness and generousity I now have a new 'L' lens in exchange for the old one.

It worked out great for me in the end - but ONLY after a lot of status calls plus worry and anxiety that I was going to be in Prague and Amsterdam without my camera.

Thanks Canon for realizing you were taking too long and for your most generous solution!!

Gear list? A couple of bodies, a couple of elle's, and a few misc. items

The wait is a little disheartening to hear about. I'm going to be taking my 1DIIN in to have the SD card slot looked at. It's under warranty so I've got time in that sense... but given the delays discussed, I might best hold off on taking it in until after the summer when I do most of my shooting.

Sorry for crashing your post with my noob question

but...

Can you just drop it off at the service center in Mississauga? On Dixie right?

Do they charge for cleaning the sensor or calibration?

Thx

Chris

they are ok fast for somethings i guess, i broke my 24-70's rear lense mount part under international warrenty and it took them around 2 and half week turn time to mail the fixed one back to me but it was partly due to my fault of not having the warrenty card with me cuz it was left seas. once they got my warrenty info it was straight road from there luckily. i just dropped it off at the dixie service center. also curious to know if they do cleaning sensor. i did some reading and found that they do not do cleanin view finders because accordin to them, they don't have the dust free environment to do it.

I have not heard one good story about the Mississauga service center. Calgary is just about as bad. I had my 580 in Calgary for service and it took 5 weeks for them to finally decide that they were going to replace it. This was before I had my CPS membership.

I lived in Montreal for a few years and the service center there is just outstanding. They would tell me when it was supposed to be done and in just about every case they would have it ready before there target date. I have only had to use a service center once since the Calgary fiasco and I shipped to Montreal and again had a great experience.

So your 6 weeks in this service center is probably standard for their performance. It shouldn't be that long, but it seems to be that way at most of them.

My life is like one big RAW file....way too much post processing needed.

Here's your good story then. I dropped my Rebel off at the Mississauga service centre and had it back in 5 days with a new shutter and shutter box. Packed properly, no complaints here.

When was this done? Was it recent?

FliptEG2 - yup, that is the one. It's off of Dixie. Yup, you can just walk in and fill out the paper work for calibrations (not sure about cleanings) and say good-bye to your camera for 5 days to... weeks? If it's under warranty, it's free, of course.

Lots of horror stories from Mississauga, my 1DMKIIN was calibrated and back in my hands in less than a week but I also had some difficulties in the past.

Sensor and viewfinder cleaning is a free service. Even if no warranty. I bought my rebel (300D) from ebay as a display model. The serial number on the camera belonged to an XT model. I brought the camera to Canon in Mississauga and they didn't care. It doesn't have to be under warranty and cleaning is free as a service/thank you for simply owning a canon product. Dropped it off Thursday and received it (shipped by Purolator at Canon's expense by the way) on Tuesday the following week. If you take it to a place like Henry's they charge you and ship it to Canon anyway so easier to cut out the middle man and absolutely free. Very happy.

QFT. I took my XT in for a cleaning and it was ready within 2 days, no charge. :)
