Well I'm headed to Nashville a week from this Thursday for a week. Wade Kilgore made it to through audition process for the Blue Bird Cafe and will be performing on the last Sunday night in May. I'll be documenting the trip, hoping to shoot in the Blue Bird Cafe during his performance.

For those who don't know the Blue Bird Cafe is famous in Nashville for discovering/featuring singer songwriters from all over the world. Many of the great songwriters/performers have been discovered here.

Here is the CD artwork for Wades' first CD. The CD will be distributed to numerous publishers and a few labels.

It can be difficult to understand the layout of the artwork so I'll try and explain it the best I can.

Inside the front clear portion of the tray will be a little booklet that pulls out;

Page 1 is the cover
Page 2 & 3 is the spread that you will see if you remove it from the tray
Page 4 is what you will see on the inside of the CD when you open it up.

On the CD you will see one of my favorite shots, what makes this neat is it represents the perspective from Wade. You will see here it is in black and white and in color. The reason is the color version will be on the cd and when you pull the cd out the black and white will then be seen where the CD was.

Lastly you will see the back cover.

I've included a couple options we are looking at for alternate covers but using the same them.

I'd be curious your thoughts on the cover options.

On the CD - Hard to tell but you will be able to see in the next image how the cutout will work.

Thanks a bunch!

Actually that is a funny story.

We shot the studio stuff at my "studio" and we then drove downtown Dallas, about 45 minutes. We get all setup and I tell him to go change...UHOH! He then tells me he left his 3 pair of boots back at home.

So we thought it would be cool to shoot in the flip flops.....he said I bet I'll have the only CD in Nashville with flip flops....I said HECK YEA!

Actually, I told him Jimmy Buffett probably already had one. I kinda like the flip-flops, the "taco hat" and the vibe.

What I like about shooting Wade is he has a very creative mind. We were doing some test shots in the studio the day before and he kinda saw this shot. We then talked about it and figured out what to bring, I really liked the idea of "seeing it through his eyes"....

I really like all of the photographs, but the photoshopping is what bothers me about some of them.

The font in the special thanks text is entirely too illegible for me. There are parts of it that I simply cannot read and don't imagine it'd be any better when printed. I don't know if it's because of the font itself or the drop shadow you added to it. Finally, I think the outer glow effect on the CD cover images looks amateurish, honestly. Maybe instead put a stroke around the text to make a solid outline or something?

I'd have to say, that although I love the idea of the blurred bus/trolley in the cover shot, I actually prefer what you have in the cover without it. I don't care for his pose in the alternative shots, plus they don't look like they've been processed like the first one. What you have for the cover and front insert look spot on and the outer glow actually works a little better in those images

Thanks elbirth, the last two are processed differently. We want to look at them over the next couple of days. It will be pretty easy to replicate what was done in the first one. We wanted to try a different look. I can understand the font on the inside, I'm pretty certain it will print fine based on the testing we've done.

Lots of work....a tripod, ND filters and blending images using layer masks.

Does that explain it?

What most people won't "get" is how hard it is to blur an object like that in bright sun. It is not always easy to get that kind of motion blur since it takes a 3 second+ shutter speed.

Hey Chris, those all look great!

Quick question: On the liner notes, he thanks Jeff Durio. Is that who I think it is?? "Jeffrey"?

Again, man, all of those look pretty sweet...

Steve it is.

Wade and I became good friends because of the ole TGF. The acoustic in the "songwriting shot" is a brand new 815ce Florentine with a burst, great axe!

THAT Wade Kilgore??

Man, tell him I say hi!

I thought that guitar was an 815-CE, but I couldn't quite make out the inlay...

Plus one. They look Dynomite!
I got a good laugh from the story of His forgetting His boots, however I like the shot with the sandals because it departs from the stereotypical "CW" singer with hat & boots. You guys just might start a new trend. ;)

The Captain and crew finally got their stuff together, now if we can only remember where we left it.

I love the CD concept and the flip flops; well he has to beat Kenny Chesney on that one.And all the shots turned out great! Now about the "Blue Bird", it is SMALL. And I mean Small. As a phtographer, you will need to find one place and stick to it. Don't use your flash, or they will stop the performance, there is alot of talking that the performers do, so you will have adequate down time. There is no smoking, the people are sitting on top one another and don't speak or say anything or people will shush you. My hubby has played there a about three to four times. Everytime was like that. Get there early to get a good sit and don't carry too much with you. You will have no where to put it. And eat before hand, the food isn't that great there, typical bar food appetizers. And the drinks are expensive.

Still have fun and enjoy yourselves. Don't forget about Tootsies(famous little club for country artists) on Broadway across from the Gaylord Convention Center. Go down town to Second Ave for some night shots, Cenntinneal Park in the afternoon, Bicenntinneal Park as well. There is a small Riverfront area with a really cool carrousel. It was designed by Red Grooms whose is a famous local artist. Plety of areas for some really nice shots while you all are here. HAve fun and enjoy the Blue Bird. And tell him good luck!

Thanks Lunajen,

As a "pro" concert shooter you won't even see a flash on my body. I was in Nashville at Wade's first audition so I've got a pretty good idea of some of the fun things. I love the town. I'd really like to go back and see it around Christmas time.

Thanks again!
