Pretty interesting photos. It seems to paint a story in my mind, most likely not a real one, but I think anyone can imagine and speculate anything they want when they look at a photo. I am not sure if you mentioned what lens you used?

I find the first picture to be the hypocritical one. Homeless smoker! It always amazes me that poor people collect benfits and seek handouts but drink and smoke (or worse). The rest of the pictures are more a 'day in the life of' type of candid. I wont echo the great words of sara. Thanks for posting.

It just doesn't seem right to kick a person when she's down. That lady is probably enjoying one of the few pleasures she has left in the nadir of her existence. Who are we to blindly judge her without knowing her full story?

Thanks OP for sharing a provoking series. The photos are technically imperfect, yes, but then again most street shots are. It's mostly about capturing a fleeting moment, which presents itself briefly and dissolves soon after.

That is not a homeless woman, it is the senior vice president for K-Mat's cart theft acquisition team.

To the original poster: From lurking on this forum for the last few years I have learned it is better not to post pics of homeless people. It will evoke a negative response every time. Don't take it to hard. :)

I agree with you, people will JUDGE you harshly for being judgmental. lol Post what you like, ignore those who are looking for some reason to be politically correct. I prefer to tweak their noses just a little, as I am tolerant of everyone except those who are intolerant (those who wish to silence others for what they think is non PC wordage use.

I call them bums, I guess I am old school. ;) Don't worry, if that woman ever sees this, it means she has access to a computer so she probably isn't homeless, if she is homeless, she will most likely never see this so it doesn't matter. Who knows, you posting this might result in a son, nephew, grandchild in finding their long lost relative. Now that would be a good thing, right?

I'm not surprised about your condescending attitude towards the more unfortunate sectors of society after reading this: https://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=261092

"...Probably enjoying...' means you're making an assumption just like I am. Along with my assumption (just like yours) I have metered my response with some experience with the homeless (they seem to predominate in my local area, particularly around the Walmart, as irony would have it). Again, from my OWN PERSONAL POINT OF VIEW, I'm not speaking for ANYONE ELSE (LOL), I refuse to help homeless drunks or smokers. Simple as that. You, on the other hand, can help whomever you want and comment as you please :)

Thanks man, I just did comment. I just said don't kick a person when she's down. If you don't subscribe to that, then that's your prerogative.

True. Anyone who persists to take a picture of someone even after told not to is on a high horse.

Maybe, I'm way off base here, but the majority of homeless people that I know of, do not get any type of benefits (no money=homeless). You have to have an address to get benefits and I don't think the *fourth bench down from the swings in the park* is going to get you much at all.

FWIW, I liked the pictures. You stated up front that they were *snaps*, so you already knew they weren't photographically *perfect*. Photography should and does *provoke* the viewer to think.

Ya, I was talking about you actually. If I were him I wouldnt have asked. Public place means I can take whatever pics I want. Besides, she's homeless so it's not as if she can afford to sue me! lol
