One guy said it would tear the mount out of my camera if I held the camera and not the lens? Any one got any ideas on that?

What we see depends mainly on what we look for.

I used my 70-200 with my 350D for some time with no problem, but I suggest carrying/holding it by the lens or lens and body, but avoid the body alone. EOS 350D + Kit 18-55 lens (looking to donate) , EOS 30D 18-270 Tamron (wife's), 7D MkII

May 15, 2007 08:17 | #8 The 70-200 2.8 IS is a heavy lens. When using the heavier lenses, it's more important to support the lens than the body. However, just supporting the body is not going to destroy your lens mount. And that lens will work wonderfully on the 350D. John

(this happened to me after being stupid) simply remove the lens and place it back on the camera. As far as leaving the lens dangling from the XT or XTi lol try shooting like that for awhile. You may find pure comfort demands you support the lens a little Capture the moment that took your breath away. Savor each one and look for more to come!

More recently I've mounted a 400mm f/2.8 IS on it although it spends most of it's time on a monopod. It all started as a hobby with a Rebel XT & KIT lens. $5K worth of equipment & $0 of income later, all I have to show for it is a harddrive full of pictures and priceless memories!! Yeah it's still worth it

You'll probably mount the lens to the tripod, but only because it's more stable and the lens mount is closer to the center of gravity, meaning less drift on the tripod head - but it won't break away the lens from the camera lens mount. er my lens wasn't the 2.8 its the 70-200 F4L IS not sure if that's any lighter or what not.
