Hello Everyone.
This is my first post in this fine forum, i have been lurking for some time. I currently have a 300D dedicated to IR, a 350D that i got new from wal*mart for only $190 due to a pricing error and a fabulous MK3 on order:D . I live in New Windsor NY which is nestled right in the Hudson Valley, im about 10 minutes from West Point, if even 10. I saw this thread and i am all over it. I would love to meet other photography enthusiast and pros at the event in Brewster. I will be there. My name is John btw. The only thing that bothers me is that it is mainly birds of prey we will be shooting so i know we will need some decent super zooms or teles and the only tele i have at the moment after spending BANK on a MK3 is a 75-300mm f/4-5.6  , will it be enough to get some good shots? Unlike some of the ones posted in here already which i am more then certain they were taken with a L (lovely) series lens. i also have the 18-55mm, and the "Nifty Fifty" 1.8 prime. Im only about 30 or so minutes from Brewster, and i work the 4am-1pm shift, so ill just get out early around 9am or so and meet you guys over there. Looking forward to it, and hopefully i will get some replies and insight on all of this. Good day all.

~John N.

Looking forward to meeting you. Will you be wearing a kilt so we can recognize you? ;) :p

Don't worry about your lens selection. Many of the birds are being held by their keepers right in front of your eyes. You'll do fine.

Pio, baseburo is more important. There will always be a next time. How about the airshow at Jones Beach?

Mark, heading to Maryland tomorrow for the long weekend. Going camping - my eyes are still itchy from allergies but it's definitely on the wane. If I had a choice I'd rather stay home, but my son has lost too many opportunities to go outdoors these past weeks.

Baseburo is all my son has on his mind nowadays! (Well, fishing too). Last week he got to meet Jim Leyritz who visited them at a baseball clinic he attends. He was so excited.

I'm sure we can arrange a meeting this June!

Hey John,

Tom from Highland Mills here :)

I can't make the June 3rd shoot,
but always open for any other POTN
and other shoots when/if time allows...

Definitely make it a point to shoot with Mark; and tell him to bring his "hat" :) :) :)

Hey Mark, I just stumbled upon this outing...

I would like to go check out some greenery up by you, but think this may be a very cool experience which I could benefit from. What do you think?

It looks good, but that's a lot of dough, and I've done most if not all of that shooting already.

Go to Adorama's website and click on their upcoming workshops. They've got similar things for a lot less money.

Thanks Mark. I checked out the site and found this walking tour...

It sounds very similar except for going to Times Square and St. Patricks. I'd like to learn about shooting in low-light, but not sure if it's worth the extra $120. What do you think? If I got to the Adorama one I can make the Birds of Prey, but I won't get the church info.

I contacted Joe Dimaggio and he responded and told me there would be 10 people or less on the tour. Seemed sincere and his work speaks for itself. I guess that's why you pay more $$.

What's up with Adorama? Are they reputable? Ever done one with them?Seems pretty good to me.

They are a very reputable dealer. Their store is a bit shabby, as are their 5th floor classrooms, where I've taken two classes.

If you want my opinion, and I don't know why you would, I'd come to the Birds of Prey Day. This is a really enjoyable day that only occurs once per year, whereas the walking tour of Manhattan, etc can be done any time.

Yes, you make perfect sense. I don't get to see much greenery here so I like to get out when possible. I will be there. I'll do the Adorama tour at the end of June. The only question now is if the wife and kid are coming.

Your wife and especially kid will love it. They do a show under a large tent, where a world famous guy from Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom shows alligators, snapping turtles, etc. In fact, they feed the snapping turtle like a big apple or some such and he obliterates it. It is a fun day.

They also have something akin to a small zoo and injured birds, including a one-winged Bald Eagle.

I'm in! See you on Sunday.

I'll be driving in from about the GW bridge if anyone wants to meet up prior.
