I came across this Goldfinch (at least that's what I think it is but the color isn't summer yellow yet) this evening. I stopped, took a few photos and moved on. About 20 minutes later I returned to the same area and there she was still eating so I set up the tripod again and took a few more shots. Then I left and wandered around for a while longer - maybe another 30 minutes. I didn't find any other birds to photograph so I started to head out of the area. I walked by the same tree and there she was still eating. So I set up the tripod yet again and took a few more images. She was still eating when I left. She must have been really hungry!! I don't think she'll be happy until she strips the tree.
These images are pretty heavily cropped. Let me know what you think.

The 400 5.6 does seem to take very good images even at a distance particularly when stabilized on the tripod.
Maybe next time.
