I wanted to get up early to catch the beautiful morning light, but it was sunday and sundays are for sleeping in. So I didn't make it out to the wildlife sanctuary until about noon. It wasn't the best time of day to go shooting, but the weather was great and it felt good to feel the gentle breeze on my face as I walked along the woodland trails.

1) Right off the bat, I ran into this pair of Mourning Doves in a tree above the parking lot.

2) I caught this Green Heron standing along the creekbed looking for something to eat.

3) There are these blue nesting boxes located along the trailside. Every once in awhile I will see a Tree Swallow landing on top of it or flying into one.

4) This dainty Black Necked Stilt reminds me of a ballerina.

5) An American Avocet mucking around in the mud.

To be continued...

Thanks for looking

- Hung

All very nice Hung, but I like looking at the stilts best. I don't think we have them here.

Hello Hung,

I live by San Joaquin Wildlife Sanctuary. It's a nice place. I got lost there on my first visit. Next time you go there, shoot me an PM or call me 714/679-3982.

Great captures!

I wish I lived near a wildlife sanctuary, to be able to walk out the door and have somewhere like this close by would be great. Fantastic photos.

Mark

Thanks all. I'm very impressed with the image quality of this canon ef 400mm f5.6. For this past outing, I had rented the lens. Since it looks like the canon spring rebates will finally arrive this week, I'm planning on getting it. I have more pics from this outing that I will post soon. Stay tuned!

Very nice shots of some great looking birds, I like the Stilts and Avocets, two of my most favourite shorebirds to photograph for sure.:)

Beautiful shots. Especially like the Green Heron. Those little guys are really hard to photograph here. Very secretive.
