Pretty much what the title says. I'm not exactly a bird watcher or anything, but I will take pictures of one if I can.

All three of these shots were taken in manual at ISO 400 with flash (built-in), 1/200 @ f/5.6.

All I've got to say is that I am so glad to have a 10D again! ;)

From the looks of the results from doing a Google search, I think it is an Anhinga. So you are both correct.
