Hey all I was hoping you would be able to help me out on something regarding camping. I am headed up to Algonquin Park this weekend and I will be bringing my newly purchased XT and was wondering on your opinion of storing it at night. During the days it is going to be about 17-20 celcius which doesn't concern me, at night however it is supposed to drop to -1 to -3.... this concerns me. I planned to keep it in the case in the car at night while putting the body and lens into ziplock bags, but the car is still going to get cold. Any pointers on what I should be doing to keep it safe and happy? Thanks in advance!

Cold is not going to hurt your camera. I have used my D60 and 20D at temperatures colder than -20C.

The main thing to worry about is condensation. This occurs when you bring a cold camera into a warm humid environment, such as coming inside on a cold day into a warm room or vehicle.

Thanks, I wasn't/am not so worried about the cold as I am limiting condensation. I re-read my post and I realized I didn't make it sound like that. I think what I am worried about most is having it sitting cold in the car where it seems the windows always fog over night and then having it adjust slowly as temps get higher and higher, though the more I think of it, might be slow enough to naturally prevent problems?

You should be fine. The camera will essentially "be outdoors" temperature-wise the whole time. You won't experience any condensation unless you climb in the car at 6:00am because you're cold, start it and crank the heat for a half hour, then jump out with your camera to catch a shot of the bear that's eating your food stash.

A little condensation never hurt anyone.

If you're really paranoid, get a pelican.
