Still trying to get these guys in decent light. Haven't fully succeeded yet but won't give up. Thank you for taking a look. Comments welcome.

Looks good to me. Sometimes we are our worst critics. I agree that photographers should strive for perfection, but we should also enjoy what nature gives us. --Rick

Good series, the blackbirds in the UK are just plain old black all over. Wish they had a splash of colour like these.

Very nice Dennis. You got very close to the Yellow Head, which I wish I could do. :)

The first and last are nice and really show these birds in their element - oddly perched on a stray twig or other protrusion. Nice going. Looking forward to seeing more!

I'd take the Yellow-head any time. I really wish we had them here on the east coast (mid-atlantic).

Thanks Rick, Sindri, Mark, Gary, Mitch, kolok, Mickey and Deb! Your comments are appreciated!

I love watching the Yellow Heads--they are so territorial and are always chasing other birds away from the area. Generally, they stay perched quite a distance from me out in the marsh, but if I'm patient, they will fly closer to the road I have to stay on. Then, if I'm lucky, they'll let me approach to within 20 feet or so. Unfortunately, the road is not situated for the most ideal lighting. Hope to catch one of these some day when they've temporarily flown to a better location for a photo.

Next time it is overcast head out to that spot. You'll see a huge difference in photographing blackbirds in overcast light. Slower shutter speeds, yes, but the blacks are easier to expose. The first shot is still very nice though, and nicely composed.
