Does this shot usually get taken before the ceremony or after? I would think it would be inappropriate to ask the bride and groom to remove the rings after they had the ceremony.

We do it before the ceremony for the reasons you have stated.

you can't get a shot of the rings with the flowers on the ground with the bride and groom in the back ground, unless you do it after the ceremony. Plus they get to put the rings back on again, further cementing their vows. so before and after depending on what you want.

If i'm with the guys before the ceremony I do it then if I remember, else I do it late in the evening. I always want them both on and off the hands.

I do most of them before, except this wedding coming up, the groom and bride will be in seperate locations, so we already talked and it will be done after.

It varies... Usually, I try to get them before someone loses them. It's kinda hard to do a ring shot without rings though.

Sometimes before the ceremony, sometimes after, with the hands over the bouquet. It mostly depends on the schedule and my memory.

Usually before the wedding, but I have taken the rings from them afterward to do a few shots.

I always end the before the wedding photos about an hour to 30 mins before the ceremony, depending on how many guests start to arrive early... during that hour to 30 mins is what i do detail shots like rights, programs invitation, stuff like that but i do the rings very first because people always seemed to be stressed out about getting them back before the wedding starts. Like I am going to forget or something

i do mine at the reception after everybody was introduced/danced and seated. durring downtime ill use the rings & stuff them nicely into the head tables flower arraingments. (usually groom standing close by to guard? lol)

side note: a few have declined to take them off, at that point ill take a photo of the hands over the flower arraingement instead. hey.. whatever works right?

I'm so glad I searched and found this thread. It kept me from posting a thread asking the same question. :D

Thanks for posting this, because I was wondering the same thing. I couldn't remember from my own wedding when they did the ring shots.

I'll do the solo ring shots beforehand on the pillow (my wife is the planner so I'll make sure they have a ring pillow) and I'll do the hand/ring shots afterward.

We invite the bride and groom to drop the weddings rings off at the studio in the days prior to the wedding (and anything else like dresses, shoes, jewellery) so that we can take the photos then. Takes some of the pressure off the wedding day for us and gives us the opportunity to take the photos in a variety of settings.

I usually do them after the ceremony, I start with them on the hands and then I do some in the bouquet or whatever else comes in mind. Non of my couples ever even thought of it twice to hand me the rings for a second.
