Flash Website Question

I am wanting to start my own website pretty soon and have looked around and found a nice flash template that I really like and is reasonably priced. I am pretty adept at html but have never messed with flash at all. How hard is it editing a flash template. Any advice?

Depends on the template. Ask the designer. If you want to appear on template work out that angle, flash sucks for that.

Tim Thanks, Not quit sure what you mean by flash sucks for that? I know some don't care for templates but for my present needs it should be fine. If I ever become world renowned I will hire a ad firm to design me up something really special!

What is your desired effect with flash? I ask because there are allot of free templates available that might meet your needs.

Sathi, Hi, This template is only $65. I liked it because of it's clean, simple yet professional look. Most of the flash used on this site is just picture transitions. Do I have any real reason for wanting flash, I would have to say no. I just like the layout of this one and it seems most photography sites seem to incorporate some flash in it.

I have seen several free html website templates that did not impress me much. Haven't seen many free flash...May not be looking in the right corners of the web!

I was more concerned about the learning curve in working with flash. I don't think it is as simple as taking their template changing the url of their sample pics to my url....or is it??

no, the flash template is hard to be customized. Lets see it has 5 galleries, but you need to make it 6. It can be a huge hustle to do so. I believe you can change the background pictures or music pretty easy though.... For $65 I don't know if you will get those .FLA flash source file...

Oh...well if its $65 then nevermind. Anything that is good, is what you want, and is only $65 is a winner and well worth it.

As far as flash being difficult that is tough for me to quantify. When I first tackled flash I found it easy but I am a web programmer. You say you know html so I would guess you are capable, but your mileage may vary

If nice photo transitions are your goal may I suggest CSS? It can give very pleasing results and doesn't have a dependancy on flash. I know in this day and age almost everyone has a flash capable browser, but you never know so I try and avoid using it whenever possible.

I havn't tried any of these yet FYI. I would first need some decent pictures worthy of fancy transitions. But I thaught the AJAX one looked very cool. I am pretty adept at the AJAX technique so if you ever needed any help with this let me know.

Flash isn't too easy to modify to be honest. It depends on what you want to do - like already said changing the music, sound clicks, fade times for slideshows, etc. is easyish, but creating new pages or really modifying anything past these simple things can get pretty hard and confusing. If you know html that will help, but actionscript doesn't really resemble html. Do you have any c++ or java programming (even a little) experience? I found my c++/java experience very helpful in learning actionscript.
