It's amazing what a bit sun does to an image. I could cut my fingers on that.
Nice shot !

It does sharpen, but also washes out the color. I think I like cloudy day shots better. :)

Shooting in the sun can be trickier than in overcast conditions, but it does allow for capturing greater detail partly due to the added contrast in the shadows.

This is the baby eagle you shoot on a regular basis - right?

Thanks Adi

It is sharp but may have lost some color that overcast might help

Good shot. I think you're much closer than 210 feet though even if it's a crop!

I'm a least 180' from the tree and the bird is ~ 50 feet up so that is about it.

My other stand is about 20' closer but the angle is too steep

Yea you are probably closer than I thought. I eagle is so big. I'm used to shooting the little guys lately and you have to be 20 feet with a big lens for them . I was curious just how close the actual distance was on a eagle to get full frame so I did a quick and dirty test in the house. At roughly 100 feet the eagle should fill the frame on a 20d/500 and 1.4 TC shot vertical at 200 feet it's half the height of a vertical frame.

Horizontal the eagle fills the frame at 100 feet.

I would say this bird is 24" to 30" tall and wingspan is very near 6' and that is short of FF but makes a nice crop for Composition

Yea I used 30" but just round numbers. That eagle sure beats the tiny warblers I've been shooting lately. If they're not close to the 600mm + 1.4 min focus distance they're too far:( . I see you're using that 1.4TC much more than you originally thought :)

It provides that extra lenght without loss of IQ at f8 or greater. I did some shots at f5.6 with pretty good results. I have a Canon 1.4 don't know if a cheaper brand would give same results.

Still looking to get that D1 MarkIII

IQ on my 500 + 1.4 at 5.6 is excellent. Don't expect to MK III to do any wonders but it is going to help, that's for sure. Make sure to pick up a 2X TC when you get that MK III. The Canon TC's should be the best for you. I'm hoping to get my MK III next week but it's all rumors.
