It was a somber melancholy few days....

We went to the family cottage on Island 52 in Georgian bay for the last time.

My Grandmother having past away this past November.. the property.. 4 generations in the family,.. was sold. The rainy days were spent clearing out what we could.. the rest was left behind to it's own fate faced with the new owners.

With all the work and rain.. there were unfortunately few photo ops..

Here are the first bits I have dealt with.

Fotopic and this site no longer seem to get along.. all files are being forced to 500pixels wide

Bumpus in front of the great fireplace built in the thirties by a skilled scottish mason.

The Washroom.. for years there was no hot water and all laundry was done by hand down by the shore.

The wind torn pines sit atop some of the rare exposed pre-cambrian sheild.. the oldest stone on the planet.

600 million years old.. the swirls of Magma that formed the pre-cambrian sheild are plainly visible.

There was only one day that the sun shone.. we had to leave by boat @ 11:00am that morning.. we awoke to find an 1/8th" of snow on the dock.

I'll post more later.. things get a bit more somber in some of the other photos....

What I have so far (most is allready here) is in the following gallery;

Don't know what to say. File all of the great memories somewhere close and return often.

Sorry to hear about your loss CDS. The fireplace looks to have been very well built. I'm sure you guys are going to miss the old homestead.

Sorry about your loss.
Such tasks make one feel like our memories are being put in boxes.

All we can do is live intensely and happily with our dear ones, to get the most of each moment in life. That is always work in progress.

Seems you had happy moments there in the past.

Thanks for sharing,

Jaime

Cheers,
Jaime

Thanks guys..

I didn't mean to be such a "downer" on the site.. ?!

Truth is.. I was so busy.. that the thing that bothered me the most while I was there was the weather and lack of "shooting time"...

It wasn't untill after the 2 day drive home that it all sunk in :(

Anyway.. I'll post more as I have find any worthy of posting... we stopped at Niagra on the way up.. but it was difficult to take anything but the "standard" shots... nothing I'm proud of.. BUT WHAT A SIGHT! Wow,.. easy to see why it is one of the 8 wonders of the World!

In the mean time,.. I got just a few birds up in Georgian Bay... https://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=32122
