I received an email a few weeks ago from National Geographic Traveler for a Photography seminar at the Nat Geo building in DC on April 21. It sounds pretty interesting and I was contemplating going, but I think the price is a bit steep for me.

Anyways, I wanted to share in case some of the fellow POTNers might be interested:

NEW Seminar from National Geographic Traveler! Creativity with Light wrote:
The right light is the secret ingredient that lets you turn an ordinary subject into a magical photograph. National Geographic photojournalist Nevada Wier and Pulitzer Prize-winning photographer Jay Dickman will help you recognize and work with a wide range of light -- tackling its exposure challenges, exploring creative possibilities, using color strategically, and choosing the white balance. View amazing images and see your skills improve in just one day!

I was planning on taking pictures of my 2 girls (5yo & 17mo old) for Easter. Any suggestion where's the best place to take them?

I live in Herndon, VA.

Thank you!

Spring coming, so cherry blossom I think. If u can go to D.C. and EARLY MORNING, along the tidal basin, there are trees and not crowded compare to the National Mall. Also Kenwood garden is lovely too.

Btw guys, since it is almost April and it is time for Canola fields to bloom, I heard there are some in Hanover County and fairfield. Anyone know some location?

Interesting exhibit at the Smithsonian:

Faking It: Manipulated Photography before Photoshop
February 17–May 5, 2013

In the first major exhibition devoted to the history of manipulated photographs before the digital age, some 200 works will demonstrate that today's digitally altered photographs are part of a tradition that extends back to the beginning of photography. Featuring visually captivating photographs, the exhibition will trace photographic manipulation from the 1840s through the 1980s and show that photography is—and always has been—a medium of fabricated truths and artful lies.

NGA's not the Smithsonian, rather a separate organization/entity (Smithsonian sites are in the .edu domain), but the exhibit is interesting. I volunteer at the Smithsonian, with all the benefits that carries. My Smithsonian badge and $2.55 will get me a cup of coffee at NGA. :{)#

Spring in NoVA also means sports! (And we may eventually have some spring wx.) No matter, here are a couple shots from Oakton HS Tuesday night. Girls varsity soccer, Oakton HS vs McLean HS. No score. No matter, they both played well. Enjoy!

Right! Not! Page 3 (external link). Seems strange they don't have the same price for coffee at any two of their cafes.

Here are a couple photos from Saturday in DC. The first is from the Cherry Blossom Festival Parade. The other is from the Japanese Street Festival. Enjoy!

Springtime in NoVA.

Last night I photographed the Girls Varsity soccer game at Oakton High School. They played against Robinson Secondary School. Oakton won 2-1. Also in attendance was Mr. Daniel Woolard of the DC United Soccer Team. It was Youth Appreciation Night at Oakton. For the girls, in yellow for Robinson, #1 is Kelley McCarthy. For Oakton in white, #16 is Tess Sapone.

Enjoy!

Where can I take 1950's cameras to get looked at to see if they work, have any photos, etc?
