OK, it may not be their fault completely.

2 weeks ago I order a new body and a few lenses from Amazon. The order is coming from 3 different vendors. Amazon (the free shipping thing), 17th Street photo, and J&R Music and Computer World.

The Amazon part arrives first supprisingly, delivered fine by UPS.
A few days later comes the 17th street part, again UPS and no problems.
The J&R part took a week to ship (interesting definition of immediately available) so that was the first annoyance. Then the tracking info wasn't updating but no big deal. It finally lists as out for delivery and then doesn't show up. Today it lists as "Incorrect address, a postcard has been sent to the recipient for confirmation".

OK, firstly it was 1 order, 2/3 of it arrived fine and that address hasn't changed in 5 years. Why is it now incorrect?

Secondly, if it has the wrong address how will sending me a postcard fix anything. If J&R screwed up printing the address then the postcard will not get here either. Retards.

This is for work, I need it next week, and now it will be late so I'll look crap. All because it took them a week to even ship it and then someone screwed up the address.

OK, vent over.

Your best bet is to call UPS, find the nearest distribution center (they are everywhere) and go pick your package up directly. There is usually a "front desk" where you can ship stuff or inquire about packages. Once you tell them the problem, they'll do the rest. I've had this same trouble in the past, and it usually gets resolved with no trouble.

I think the problem stems from the UPS label being 3 lines, but sometimes vendors print information on 4 lines, which screws up the label and omits your info in that second address line. (Mine usually contains my apartment number, which is why it says "Incorrect address".)

Cool, thanks for the info. I'll see if I can give them a call.

Man, that sucks.

Not nearly as dramatic, I did buy about 1k worth of accessories for my videography, and paid for overnight delivery (helps me sleep at night). Then I got an email saying "Well, one of the pieces is shipped from the Manufacturer". Hey, no big deal, right? BH is in NY State, I am in California, and guess what: The manufacturer is in CA too !!!...

Guess the end of the story yet?... BH from new york arrived less than 24 hs from placing the order early this week, and I have yet to hear from the manufacturer. It is an instructional book and DVD, so I really wanted -if anything- that to arrive first.

Oh well, crap happens.

(If it makes you feel better, when I got my Mk II with lenses, $5k plus, I ordered overnight, but due to 'Unforeseen Events' from UPS, the $250 overnight actually took like three days. I was miserable).

Bummer $250 for 3-day is pretty poor.

Well I have the camera and the last lens in my hand. The shipper hadn't printed the suite number which is supposedly why it wasn't delivered. However they had printed the business name and we have UPS here every day so I'm surprised that wasn't enough. Fortunately we are only about 15-minute drive from the UPS shipping center so 45 minutes later I have the package.

I guess now I need to decide what to take a photo of for the IMG_001 thread. :) Then go track down some ducks for the new lens threads. Then do a comparison between the Sigma 17-70 and Canon 17-40. Man this forum is a lot of work.:D

So it wasn't UPS' fault? Go figure.

I'm still going with 50/50. It was the vendors fault for not printing the suite number. It was UPS fault, despite delivering multiple packages to us every day, for not delivering something the clearly stated the business name in the address. It's a 3 storey building in its own parking lot, not like you could be delivering to the wrong one. :)

I love local dealers.

Cash, credit, bankcard or bank check, grab the gear and go shooting straight away :)

I plan to buy my Mk3 that way.

had i been here a couple days earlier i would have said:

i have family who work for ups, when a package says that it was incorrect address that mostlikely means that the driver couldent find the address so he or she marked it as incorrect, if you call UPS and tell them that it is infact a correct address then it will be delivered, if it took a week to arrive it wasnt ups who made the mistake but the shipper, a week of shipping is usually UPS ground and the package should have been sent second day air with amazon's current promotion

about shipping speed, if you order ups next day air, it the rule is that the package should arrive to the address before before in the morning. but if its a residential address... thats another story

FYI, my problem was with shipping to a business address that receives UPS shipments without fail every day. Our normal driver was the one to come through that day, so I just find it odd that when the business name was listed in full that he didn't make the delivery.

It's all done now though, I picked up the package and all is good. I was just stressed as I needed it next week and it looked like I was going to miss that date. Thanks for the pointers everyone.

I think I would have asked for at least a refund of your shipping fees.
