Hopefully picking up a 20' imac tomorrow. Coming with 1GB Ram, upgrade to the 256MB graphics card and also I plan to upgrade it to 2GB but usinga third party set (2x1GB) to save some ££s.

This may be a daft question but is there reason to fit the new 2GB Ram before I use the system for the first time. I'm gonna have to order the Ram online and I dont think my patients will hold till it arrives...unless there is good reason.

Cheers
Raff

Add it when machine is turned off :)

Sorry...

If you want to see what difference it makes, play with it for awhile before adding more... than add it and see what improvement it makes. Otherwise stick it in at your next opportunity.

Add it when CS2 and LR are chugging through a large workflow and locks up due to insufficient memory! Or, add it when there's a rebate happening like right now with CompUSA.

Not sure what CompUSA sells but my personal advice is use Samsung or Crucial brands.
Sometimes it's just worth the effort OR OWC.

Just to second HannaXT - I've used OWC for several sticks of RAM and two external hard drives and I love both their products and their warranties. RAM prices have really come down - and they aren't extremely expensive anyway.

Keep adding till you are filled up or out of money. Which ever comes first. :)
