Do you mean the file names as the camera writes them to the card or when they're on your pc?!

Canon 40D :: 50mm f1.8 mk II :: 17-40mm f4 L :: EX 430 :: Canon EOS 50 :: Canon AE-1 Program :: FD 50mm f1.8 :: FD 28mm f2.8 :: FD 135mm f3.5 :: Ilford HP5 Film :: Developing kit. No website, nothing serious, I just like taking photos

Have a look in the camera's menu, it's a simple prefix change

1DsMkIII | 1DMkIIN | 70-200 f/2.8L IS | 24-70 f/2.8L | 24-105 f/4L IS | 17-40 f/4L | 50 f/1.2L | WFT-E1 & E2 Transmitters - Click Here for setup advice | CP-E4 Battery Pack x 2 | ST-E2 | 580EX | 550EX | 430EXII | 420EX | Tripod + monopod | Bowens Esprit Gemini 500W/s heads & Travel-Pak | All this gear - and still no idea :confused:

I have looked in the camera's menu, cant seam to find it. the 1D has different setup layout compared to my N series, bit of a backwards step for me.

I wouldn't be surprised if you have to connect the camera up to the computer via the firewire cable and change the settings there. Make sure you have the Canon driver installed before-hand though.

Why does it matter?

Canon 1D (Mark III) (Mark IV),
10d, Elan IIE (old school), 580exII
70-200 f/2.8L, 17-40 f/4L, 85 1.8, 50 1.8 (nifty)

You can't change the file name in camera on the 1D(s) / 1D(s)2...

Rene is correct the filename prefix in the 1 series bodies is unique and could only be changed by Canon )I believe).
However you could set aRGB as your colourspace and then the first letter/number is replaced by an underscore eg 2CBB would become _CBB; I am presuming that the original 1D works the same as the Mk2 in this.
