My god, BH does something with the Rebates when we have absolutely NO PROOF of anything for why they did it, and suddenly BH's great reputation as a great seller with flawless customer service suddenly gets tainted? You dont know why they did that, you don't know whats going on over there, so for christs sake leave them alone and order elsewhere for the time being, or USE THE CODES THAT WE USED TO CHEAT THEM OUT OF MONEY ALL THE TIME.

As I said on another thread, I think if you've read B&H's initial response on the Dpreview forum, claiming strongly that Canon had raised the pricing, (just coincidentally with the rebate), and then their about face blaming the webmaster, you would see that it is evident that they got caught trying to take advantage of how the rebate was set up this time. I think some criticism is definitely in order.

Yeah I know about that but still, something doesn't seem right. They've been in business for a LONG time. Why would they choose now to screw us over?

i agree. B&H is definitely a good store to purchase from, but the fact they did that to try and swindle the unassuming customers who "thought" they were saving money shouldn't be so easily overlooked. they obviously tried to be sneaky about something and got caught doing it. its as simple as that.

no offense to the threadstarter.. it's just a matter of my opinion.

They're in business to make money, just like every other business. It's not so much "screwing us over" as it is "making more money." Screwing you over would be taking your money for a lens and not sending you the lens. B&H was just trying to make like slick and pull off a few extra bucks due to the timing and method of rebates. Do I think it was right? No. Do I think it was a scam? No. Do I think it was good to call B&H out on it? Yes.

And using PS codes when you didn't actually attend the Photoshop class they were intended for is not sneaky and trying to swindle B&H? (Not implying you personally did that)

Have Fun,

I think B&H is a lot smarter than to raise prices at rebate time to try to swindle. It is not their way. Many of us have used them for years and years and know their prices. Do you actually think they'd pull that hoping nobody would notice? I don't.

It could have been a simple but huge error on the part of their web programming team. Who knows? There has got to be an explanation.

Have Fun,

A lot of online retailers and vendors distribute coupon codes out to sites purposefully. Why? Because this gets them free advertising. Of course, I am not saying that B&H is doing exactly this but I won't be surprised if they were.

You do realize that the PS codes, more often than not just makes the prices slightly cheaper relatively? I would hardly call it swindling or cheating B&H. In most cases, the PS codes just make the prices competitive against other online vendors with ok to good customer reviews.

Trust me, if B&H thinks that they are being cheated by people passing around these PS codes, they would have 101 options to prevent it. One example, do what Dell does... have one-time use coupons sent out to customers via email and mailings. It really doesn't take a genius to figure out a couple of different ways of implementing it.

Anyway, to reply to the comment about B&H raising prices as the rebates come out, I am going to give them the benefit of the doubt. But, if I was looking for one of those lenses and didn't like B&H prices even after rebate, I would've bought it from another place. B&H is not the only reputable company to buy from, it's probably the best but definitely not the only.

I'd sure be interested in where you've seen that lens at $1499.00. B&H and everybody else is at $1599.00 after rebate.

Chill out, dude. B&H's recent actions are questionable and the quickness with which they back-pedaled with a weak excuse should make people skeptical. Updating a website of their size with "new" prices, especially given the recent Canon instant rebate announcement, is not an "oversight".

They got caught with their hand in the proverbial cookie jar and was slapped for it.

Karl is absolutely right. Most people would not be upset, if B&H had not come out of the chute acknowledging the price increase and saying it came from Canon.

"If Canon USA (or Nikon USA, etc) elects to raise the price the retailer pays for an item, the retailer is obliged to raise prices as well, or sell the item at a loss. Price adjustments have everything to do with wholesale price changes and nothing at all to do with the rebate program, whose timing is something over which retailers have no control whatever.

While I am sorry the price adjustments and rebates seems related, they are not. I am disappointed that ANYONE here would simply assume the worst about a company with a 30+ year reputation for ethical integrity. Henry Posner, B&H Photo-Video, Inc."

This was the corporation's first attempt to justify their actions and it was someone's very poor judgment. The first attempt failed miserably and they came back with a more plausible reason, which they should have used in the first place.

Boy, things sure were a lot easier to fudge before the Internet!

B&H is certainly not going to lose my business over this. Overall, they can't be beat.

B&H is the standard for camera equipment sales. Everyone references their prices and service. They adjusted their mistake in 12 hours. The rebate continues thru July. They are still one of the cheapest authorized dealers. I'll still buy from them.

If I gave you my NPPA number and you used it to get discounts from BH, then they oughta be ticked.

I can't help but think that perhaps there was a compromise or a fix that would not include the raising of prices, but they just realized they are providing you with better service than your local store, and yet you are paying less than if you walked into the Corner's Ritz.

Shame on the cheaters. As for me, when my next lens is about a year away and $6000, I do not think $150 or $200 is going to make or break the deal from me. I am not getting it from Ebay, or Walmart. So they know they win.

August, let all the rage go, man. Take some angry photos and move on, your last few posts are very anti-mellow, dude... (Sorry, that was my Frontal Woodstock Lobe speaking) ;).
