What glass should be next on my shopping list?

"Items dispatched" is what comes up on Amazon right now so nifty fifty is in a van on it's way to me!

Ofcourse, this means I am already thinking about what I should next get. And yes, I am posting in here as my main subject is performing arts. So....

Looked at a sigma 30 f/1.8 today. Nice!
Still - not sure which direction to go wtih next glass purchase. the 28-105 is a very nice walkabout lens and I love the 50-200 despite it being old fashioned and all but it is tack sharp.

Suggestions for lowlight photography and for someone who is on a budget are greatly appreciated.

I'm going for glass before I go for body upgrade.

The next item to save for would be the fast 85mm f1.8... Also, the Sigma 30mm 1.4 is a bargain lens... Expect to have it further tuned up by Sigma and you'll be in business... Therefore, allow yourself enough time before a major event/shoot to get the lens..try it out... and if it needs recalibration (as some often do), sending it back to Sigma for service...and thereafter being returned to you...

Otherwise, many POTN members swear by that particular Sigma lens...

I personally didn't have time to send it around and take chances on the Sigma 30mm 1.4, so I returned (my badly focusing 30mm 1.4 lens) it, and got something else.

Lastly, from now on I would save for the best lens...(save, save, save and buy once....the Canon 50mm f1.8 is an exception...you can always resell it and upgrade when you have more money)...I would not invest in any lens slower than a f2.8 anymore...

Ah, crikes, yes it was *that* sigma lens I looked at and not the 1.8 I stated earlier. Yup, very nice indeed.

30/1.4 gets good reviews. 85/1.8 is nice as well.
I like my 20/1.8.
For cheap primes: 35/2.0 (allthough a stop slower then the Sigma & probabely less sharp).
Other ones are going to be expensive... f/2.8 zooms

I have the 50mm f/1.8 and use it in case of emergencies, and I use the 28-75mm f/2.8 Tamrom more than anything. I'm also debating on a new lens and I think the Sigma 70-200 f/2.8 is next on the list.

35 f/2 is an awesome normal lens for a budget

With those two you're set for a while for low light shooting.

A wide angle is tough. They're either bad, slow and expensive.

Now thats some good advice. Even though there are several lenses that are less expensive than others, does not mean they are a "must" buy.

I will usually save, save, save for a lens rather than buy, buy, buy, oh wait I needed this one instead, sell, sell, sell, buy. I have had the same 'wishlist' since about week 3 way back when I first got into photography. Stick to your guns

You have already nailed what youll shoot, lowlight. So primes will be your top choice, but not your most convenient. If you want to go with zooms, try to get'em with f/2.8. The siggy 24-70 sounds like a pretty good option, thatll give you some range

The nifty fifty is probably the best thing I've bought since I got my camera, but you've already got one.

The only other lens I've picked up is the Sigma 70-200 2.8 which I'm delighted with and has been most useful, but it cost the thick end of £600.

She, Sigma 24-70 2.8- awesome lens, can pick it up for about £170 second hand. These guys often have quality second hand products and are nice to deal with...
