LR importing problem

I couldn't find an answer in the stickies, so I'm starting this thread.

I get this any time I import a photo from a folder on my PC into LR.

"This file was not imported. Could not copy a file to the requested location"

I can't import any pictures. It's really frustrating. I'm running Windows Vista.

Any suggestions?

Sounds like a permissions problem in Vista. I'm able to import from my file system, but I'm running XP.

Why are you copying a file that already exists on your PC? Should you not be choosing to Import the file from its original location?

I am trying to import photos from their original location. I think they are trying to copy to a lightroom library folder.

You should only choose to copy the images if you are ingesting from some other media. Instead choose to Import files from their current location. This will keep your files as they are on your hard drive. But now Lightroom knows where they reside.

Thanks Mike. That was the problem. I fixed it.

I can't fnd the option to leave them in the original location.. Please help!
