Anyone know what type of lenses the Canon AE1 Program uses? Do they use the Canon EF lenses?

No, they use the old FD manual lenses. They won't fit at all on a EOS camera unless there's some type of adaptor present. Even if there is you'll lost all of the automation since those lenses needed a mechanical link to close down the aperture and all the EOS camera's have are electronic ones.

On the other hand, those lenses will work on my friend's A-1 so if you happen to have that 35-105 zoom and you want to get rid of it, let me know. :)

Canon made an FD to EF Macro adapter at one time that would allow you to use the older FD lenses for macro work. The adapter works fine as long as you shoot the 10D in the manual mode and manual focus of course. Because the adapter puts the lens farther from the film(sensor) plane you lose the ability of infinite focus, depending on the FD lens that you have, the focus range could be anywhere from a fraction of an inch at the closest to a foot or so at the farthest.

Thanks for the replies!

I'm at work and a friend was checking out the 10D and the Elan 7NE and wondered about the lenses she has, IF they would work and IF she should get an EOS.

I happened to be checking stuff here on the forum and thought I'd ask.

She has a AE1 Program with FD lenses.

I think that for practical purposes you should tell her that they DON'T work. The adaptors and such are a kludge and are going to need a lot of work-around. She should just bite the bullet and get EF lenses and enjoy all the capabilities the EOS camera's have.

If I remember correctly, FD-EOS adaptor has a glass in it and it degrade the picture quality a lot.
Thanks.
