My girlfriend invited me to the Radnor Hunt Races this weekend, so I thought I'd try my hand at photographing some horse racing. Unfortunately, the clouds rolled in right before the racing began, but what can ya do? I experimented with different shutter speeds to see what produced the best motion blur, and below are some of my results.
1. 1/60 - I like this one the best. Good background motion blur, but the rider and horse are still pretty sharp.
2. 1/40 - I think this was a just a tad too slow... it gave a little too much blur in the rider in my opinion.
One of the horses tripped over that fence and three jockeys ended up on the ground, but they all escaped serious injury. The horse, however, broke its neck in the fall and died within seconds, so we were all a bit down after that and I didn't shoot any of the other races.
