I found this fella this morning while walking around our local reservoir. It was cloudy to begin with and he was in a tree in a heavily shaded area.

These two images are virtually identical. The first was taken with the flash and Better Beamer while the second was without flash. I posted both because I have seen a couple of questions recently about the use of flash. Both ahve been cropped and lightly post-processed.

I am still getting a hint of white eye. I am going to have to go the bracket route and soon.

C&C is welcome. And I would appreciate identification confirmation. We are pretty certain it is a Veery.

Thrushes are tough.

If I had to make and ID, I would have said Veery.

Thanks. That was my educated guess as well. There are plenty of Veery around here but we also get a variety of Thrushes.

Anyone else?

Did you notice is it was bobbing its tail? If so, it's a Hermit Thrush. The reddish back makes me think Hermit Thrush too, but it's not 100% confirmation by this photo.

Not enough eye-ring for a Hermit. Red-backed thrushes without a noticable, white eye-ring are generally Veery.

While the photo is an over-the-shoulder, I did see the bird from the front as well. It didn't look like a Hermit Thrush. I'm still leaning Veery.

Yeah Rock, in certain situations its makes a pretty big difference. Like I said I did these two back-to-back with the one without flash first. All setting were the same.
