I bought a copy of Adobe Lightroom, and the darn thing catalogued all my old images. I'm so organized now, I can't stand myself. I found this shot I took a couple years ago with (I think) my old 10D, and a cheapie Canon 75-300 zoom. It turned out better than it should have under the circumstances.

I am about one mile from thousands of tons of train metal. I think about potential photos every time I drive by, or hear it pass. This is, without a doubt, one of the best I have seen in a long time.

Did you send it to UP's PIO ? ... Nice if it made their marketing campagins.

Superb.

Well, You're Belmondo. Gear collector Extraordinaire, photography connoscieur, and Train stalker.

Don't see your images often, but when I do, they are kick-***.

Congrats,

UP has an insane level of control on their image/logo. If I sent them the photo, they'd probably send me a bill for having taken it. They're real jerks.

They even make model train manufacturers pay them a royalty for models of UP rolling stock.

Jerks.
Jerks.
Jerks.

Thanks for your nice comments.

Actually they've dropped the royalty fees for model companies.

Okay....That's progress.

I'd be willing to wager they still won't let you publish a UP calendar.

Good shot! Especially considering you used one of those inferior 75-300 lenses.

I don't mean to berate the lens. It was not a very good copy. (Isn't that what all bad photographers say about their equipment?)

the ground under the track really seems to widen out and the train comes at you

those last trailer carriages look like toys especially with all the colours
its an unusual and very nice shot of a train Tom. the shadows it throws look good

oops
now it brings back memories of your friend Red Shoes girl a few years ago
me saying that about another train she posted , that it looked like a toy, because of the position the photograph was taken from , or the lens, I don't know
but it looked good

its lovely Tom

Thanks, Marie.

I've always wondered what happend to Red Shoes Girl. I was really hoping to meet up with here someday. She was unusual...female train lover. She lives (lived?) here in Southern California. Just before she disappeared, she was unhappy about something, and also haveing some unspecified medical problems. We'll likely never know.

She is (was) a good photographer. She posted a shot taken inside the big Los Angeles train station, and it remains one of my favorites.

I feel your pain as I did at the time (of what happened) because I know you and she had a great rapport about the trains.
I don't think anyone else has come near to it
maybe she will drop you a line sometime and you'll know how things are going on in her life

It's all water under the bridge, Marie. To be sure, I wouldn't call it 'pain.' The nature of the forum is that people come and people go. Friendships made on the internet seem to be fairly transitory things.

ok Tom, maybe I over used the expression and it sounds a bit much
just I remember how much the exchange of chat about the ins and outs of the trains around there were enjoyed by you and she and those in the know.
