The lens is headed back to Canon, but I was wondering if anyone else has had this issue. The lens has two manifestations of the problem. First, if the lens is left on the body, it will drain the battery even with the camera off. This now seems to happen all of the time. Nothing on the camera indicated that the battery is being drained, but if left overnight, the battery will be totally dead. Second and I noticed this over the weekend. With the camera off but the lens on, if I open the CF card door, I hear the auto-focus cycling rapidly. It sounds as if it is searching rail to rail. The lens cap is on so there is nothing to focus on and the camera does not try to pop up the flash for flash assist, it’s just as if the lens has a mind of its own. If I close the door the clicking of the focus stops and if opened it comes back. Lastly, I’m sure that it is a lens issue. None of my other lenses manifest any of these problems.
