robin with dinner to go...

After tilling a couple of new rows for cantelope in the garden, a robin took advantage of the unearthed buffet table and picked up a mouthful of worms for the babies. It's amazing to me that a hungry bird can resist its own natural urge to eat so that the kids back in the nest can be fed. I guess we do the same thing, but I can't imagine keeping half a cheeseburger in my mouth long enough to get it back to the crib... Wait, ignore that analogy... pretty gross visual. Sorry...

I've noticed when I'm tilling the garden that the robins won't even wait for me to turn off the noisy tiller before they're hopping around behind me for worms. They're either extremely intelligent or absolutely convinced we mean them no harm. Either way they eat better when I'm working in the dirt!

Nothing like a grub to add flavor to those worms...
