This is my first time ever shooting some competitive volleyball. It was challenging but it was fun. I think it helped a little since I've been playing the game for more than 15 years and understand the fundamental of it.

Recycling lights were really bad and one side of the gym is darker than the other ???

I think they maybe a little hot too as the WB was all messed up and I had to use PS color to recover.

Comments and critique are welcome.

1. No face or ball, but I really like this one. This guy's form is dead on.

3. Huge blocks were up but the guy just sliced it through.

4. Running play, the middle hitter is 6'9 I think.

nice shots. Indoor VB is one of the hardest sports to shoot. Good job.

Thanks,

The action happens much faster especially when you're seeing it through the viewfinder. :)

No more HS school sports to shoot for another 4 months :(

Nice shots on your website as well. Not as photographically nice as what you posted, but great VB shots of action, players in and out of position, etc. Thanks for posting.

shooting club VB and club soccer, hoping to get back to landscape work soon.

nice shots. the guy has def has great form on that first shot and #11 had no chance of a block. makes me sad that I can't play for quite awhile. I tore my acl just jumping for a ball at the 10ft line. won't have surgery till end of summer because of a camp job I want to do...guess I could always help coach :-P

Great job! Must have been a very well lit gym!
The only thing I'd do is rotate #5 slightly counter-clockwise. The antenna is leaning a bit to the right.

Thanks Ryan. It's unreal to see how tall these HS players are :)

ACL? Ouch...:( wish you a fast rehab and recovery. Looks at the bright side, more time to shoot :)

Thanks Brad, the gym is fairly new but one side is about 1/3 darker than the other. I was able to get 1/500 f2 iso 1600 most of the time.

I'm waiting for you to post some more vball pics so I can learn. :)

That's about the same I usually get too. Looks like you've handled the noise very well. Exposures & white balance are all great! Don't know that I have anything that I could teach you! :)
