I'm going to have to go with Ronald here. I haven't owned either lens, but have read just about enough about them to know that's probably what I would go with. The only difference is that I might be tempted to stick with the 20D and pick up a good circular polarizing filter with the difference.

considering you have a 24-70L and 85mm 1.8

pick up a 5D & 70-200mm 2.8 IS

Buying the best means you never have to look over your shoulder ;)

eventually sell the 85mm 1.8 and pick up the 85L

Oh yeah a filter or two, forgot about those. Well this was done on my lunch break so I was in a hurry:p

Yeah Id like to own a 5D one day, and will get the 70-200 2.8 before I get a 5D. As for the 85 1.8, Im honestly very pleased with it, so I dont see upgrading it, even if I were to have some of the stumbly leprachauns gold:p

It's ok - you had plenty left over for a filter or two. You could also pick up a pair of manties.

I would add to my existing gear and pick up the following:

100-400 L $1310
70-200 2.8 L IS $1599.95
EF-S 10-22 $689.95

Total $3599.90 without shipping.

I would sell my existing EF 70-210 to cover the extra $99.90 plus shipping.

For me, myself and I...

Looking at the B+H website for prices...

XT with 17-85 IS $999
A backup XT for $501
BGE3 x2 @ 140 apiece - $280
4x spare batteries @ $30 apiece - $120
10-22 @$690
70-300 IS @ $550
Metz 45-CL1 @ 320
Wein Safe Synch @$50
Metz battery cluster @$105 (this is a ripoff)

This would be my personal choice though and the grand total is $3615 which is only marginally over your budget.

Only if it was a Southern Irish leprechaun. The Northern Irish leprechauns are more likely to us pounds sterling.

5D - $2700
17-40 - $630

And I only spent $3330 -

That is providing that I am adding to what I already have.

Same here, although I'd probably try to get a used one and a 70-200 f/2.8IS.
