Hi all. O.K, so I edited a pic, love the effect, but now have no idea what I did to get there.

Please, those who are better at photoshop than I, HELP! Any idea what tools/filters I may have used to make this pic so edgy. I will post before and after.

You're kidding right? There's probably fifty ways to get there.....

Simple method would be applying some desaturation, then feathered selections on certain areas to apply curves adjustments.

The desaturation bit was easy, it's that edgy thing I did. I remember all it was, was moving a slider. . .

I can't tell from small low-res versions. I don't actually see any "edgy" stuff with this shot? I am not sure what you mean?

Possibly you played with the channel mixer? Levels also uses a slider - but it wouldn't account for the desaturation.

The reason I suggested desaturation is that it appears as though there is still some skin tone in the guys face and neck area.

I'm out.

It's cool, I figured it out. I put it through photoshop, but then the final bit was done in aperture. . . kinda the wrong way round I know, but hey, I figured it out! Thanks guys.

If anyone else wants to jump in now that I have figured it, I'd still be keen for ideas on how to do this with photoshop...

ok heres what i think you did
desaturation (not total, prolly somewhere around 80%)

then

image/adjust/shadow-highlight, and choose something like 40-50%
then bring the blacks up with a small levels adjustment but leave the midtones over-bright

how did i do?

Another thing I did when playing around earlier (to get the softened look on the face) was apply the "high pass" filter to a separate layer then set the blending mode to 'soft light'. Fading the effect worked best. (only applied to the face area by the way)

A little bit of over sharpening probably wouldn't hurt either.

But as you've seen from above, it can at times be almost impossible to answer a question like yours Fritz, there's a tonne of possibilities.

Glad you remembered what you'd done.

Thanks all for your continued support throughout such a time of trial and tribulation. May you all celebrate joyfully with me in the streets, contingent, of course, on there being a street party to celebrate this post. . .

:) :)
