Hi all! Here's some of what I shot today. Overcast day which helped some shots and possibly hurt others.

I came across a battle between Cinnamon Teals which was quite violent. It appeared to be one pair against another pair--apparently something to do with mating behavior or maybe nest defense?? The teal shot here is after one of the skirmishes. If I've ID'd the teal incorrectly, please let me know!

Hope you like something here and thanks for looking!

Nice work Dennis. I wish we had those Goldfinches here in Texas.

Very nice series Dennis. I really like the yellow head. Wish I could get that close. :)

Gary, Pete, Mommy, Mitch & Reyno,
Thank you for taking time to look and comment.

Pete - the goldfinches were quite easy to spot as they seemed to mostly fly around in groups and their bright color really stands out as they are looping around. Of course, getting one to stay in a good spot to take a picture is another story. I had to approach this one in my truck and take it from the window.

Mommy - I've been going to the Ridgefield WL Refuge about 20 minutes north of Portland. Check out their website. It's a great place. Good luck!

Mitch - I was pretty happy with this YHB. The overcast sky really helped even out the lighting with fewer hotspots. I wasn't as close as I'd have liked--this one was probably 30 feet. I'd been a lot happier with 15-20! There have been 4 or 5 of these guys parked in this one area of the refuge for the last month and they pretty much stay put. Funny thing is that I haven't noticed any females--maybe they stay low to the marsh surface and send the males up to chase other birds away!

I've seen the same thing here with the Red Wings.

What a great day. You have a great variety in theses shots and I don't think the overcast sky hurt one bit. Excellent work Dennis.

Very nice and a great variety of birds, the GBH and Yellow-headed BB are my favourites. BTW, your id is correct. Cinnamon Teal and I like the pose, all I ever get are butt shots from this guy.:);)
