Well I made a trip down to rondeau with my new 30D. It was basically the first time I have been able to use it. But since i just got the camera I only had one battery so it died half way through the day. I was really dissapointed but another battery will deffinetly be my first purchase. The blackburnian was not that far off but it still needed to be cropped a fair bit and the grosbeak could have been on a better perch but I am pleased with the sharpness...

Taken on monopod with 30D + 400L

Very nice! That rose-breasted grosbeak especially. Good detail.

I've actually seen one of those birds "in person" for the first time the other day... But of course I had the 50mm mounted and it was too far for the 70-200 anyway :-(

Nice shots, Brandon. I don't think I'd ever tire of photographing Blackburnian Warblers. I saw one a couple weeks ago, but couldn't get any good shots of it.

Thanks!

Question... Is the blackburnian crop alright in quality if it was taken from this full frame shot??

Are you kidding? It's great! That's quite a heavy crop (especially for a 30D). I didn't think, looking at the first image, that you cropped that much.

Great capture of the Blacburnian and the crop holds up very nicely. Sweet capture of the Grosebeak as well and congrats on the new camera.

Nice catch on the Blackburnian Brandon. Not easy to get a clear shot of. And nice meeting you there at Rondeau shooting these guys. Man, those Blackburnians never came down for a close shot....always moving around. As for the crop I may have added a bit more to the bottom (we all have our own taste of course).

And nice catch on the Rose-Breasted Grosbeak too. They should set up some lower perches there for these birds.

Too bad to hear about the battery. I carry quite a few batteries, many are not OEM (I hear Sterlingtek is good (eBay) but I use Powerex and you can get them at www.batterybarn.com).
